Double figures for both senior Olympia teams. The rumblings are getting louder. Knights no chance at the title now which is the best news. Interesting what happens when the money dries up.
This league is a joke. It's pretty much an under 23 league... Devonport the only team with men in it and it shows... Shocking standard
Couple of words to describe the Clarence Zebras defensive effort yesterday, Uninterested ,Lacklustre, Lazy, out enthused, Poor and finally, Typical ! The Women’s backline would have ( not could have ) done a much better job . It’s as if they are just not taking the game seriously, This Is NPL boys ! Not Sunday arvo 10th division Social ! By the way a haircut or 2 wouldn’t go astray it’s obviously causing wind drag and a 70% reduction in speed . Please give the supporters that are left something to cheer about if they are to go to a freezing cold foggy Wentworth park at least once this rest of the season !
Kudos to the Knights for even turning up at the game yesterday! At least 5 players out from training all week with influenza and they still fronted up. Hoping the young Knights player who was stretchered off is ok? In saying that it’s quite sad to see week after week comments on this fantastic blog of Walters that we so enjoy, continually bagging other clubs and yet putting Devonport on a pedestal. To state that Devonport is the only team with men in it is the most juvenile comment possible. ( obviously a Strikers supporter/player). So the Knights were in second place, they got sick, they still played knowing they weren’t capable of a win and also used some younger players to get through. They could have pulled the Covid card like other teams and had the game post poned like others have untill they were well but they turned up. Walter as I said, your blog is professional and something we all look forward to weekly but it’s tiring reading schoolyard comments weekly by readers. Anon 10.27. You are 100% correct. Devonport seem to attract the right type of players.
Those that want to be successful and win things. The main reason is that the majority of their players
are mature physically and mentally. They prepare for games well and always spur each other on even in their warmups.
I watched some of the stream against Olympia. Olympia were poor with a capital P. Defensively they were leagues behind.
They were not their first choice players but if that is the next best then they are in serious trouble.
There was no intensity , no effort no ‘ mongrel’.
They just went through the motions. I then turned it off
What have these player’s been taught? What has happened to all their other players?
Where are they and why?
There are other clubs in addition to Olympia who are around the same standard.
Zebras not a whole lot better at all Riverside maybe worse. Just.
The league is in serious trouble.
So sad to see the lack of effort the Zebras put in each week
Angelo, I’m with you except I would include the words Pathetic ,Laughable, Non Existent and Woeful as well .Something needs to happen drastically to fix it because whatever the coach is trying by flogging the same dead horses is not going to achieve anything but finish second last on the table

Olympia had both their main centre backs out, the centre backs that played against Devonport were 17 and 18 years old. What do you expect from them when they are facing the leagues best team and players?

Bet the players were feeling well enough to put their hands out for the weekly wage.

Having done done research it seems that Knights have the third biggest football budget behind Port & Lions. I don’t understand why they are always talked about as the players who get all the cash?
You think if two clubs join together they would improve, but this lot have not improved on or off the field, even their women's program is going down the drain.

I take it you are referring to Zebras ? Unfortunately the few guys they really do need to keep that are getting paid don’t really give a stuff and are just playing the season out from what it looks like .They create plenty of chances up front without being able to finish it off but are poorly served by a non existent defence which must be frustrating but no excuse , I hope none of the backs are holding their hand out each week .The change in coach was never going to work .There needs to be a complete overhaul from the clubs committee right down to the drink carrier I reckon . Surely they must sit and watch replays of all the basic mistakes after every game ? I guess there wouldn’t be any time to train if they had to watch all of them though
To receive money at this level should only be a bonus for a player. They don't seem to have any commitment these days, both players and committees. Throw some money around and the results will come. Well how about having a vision that everyone can jump on board with and to give everyone a reason to play, apart from a pay check.
It's not as simple as that but money is in no way the answer. Why is it so hard to get all players, the coaches and the committee singing from the same hymn book.
Why does it matter to people so much if someone in tasmania gets paid some money to kick a ball. How many players in the league will be playing and only playing? As in a wage I understand some play and do coaching etc.
I don’t think replacing the drink carrier at Zebras is necessarily the answer...
