The shock of the penultimate round of the NPL Tasmania competition came on Friday night when second-last Olympia Warriors beat dethroned champions and fourth-placed Glenorchy Knights 3-1 at home at Empire Couriers Park.
The win ensured that the Warriors will avoid the wooden spoon, as unlikely as it was anyway that they would finish last.
Anthony Mamic gave Olympia the lead in the 15th minute when Knights’ skipper Eli Luttmer’s clearing header flew straight to Mamic, who volleyed home.
Luttmer atoned for his ‘sin’ when he converted a penalty 3 minutes before the break after Olympia goalkeeper Mitch Stalker had brought down Austin Yost, who had been put through into the box by a long pass from the centre-circle by Daniel Schmidt.

The Warriors regained the lead midway through the second half when Samuel Cummins beat defender Jack Bowman and rifled home from the D at the edge of the penalty area.
Mamic completed his brace with Olympia’s third 8 minutes from the end with a 20-metre drive that left Knights keeper Alex Woodham well beaten.
It was very disappointing performance from Knights, who had enough shots on target to win this encounter.
Champions Devonport Strikers easily accounted for wooden-spooners Riverside Olympic 4-0 at home at Valley Road.
Roberto Fernadez Garrido, the league’s leading marksman, hit a hat-trick to take his league tally for the season to 22 goals in 17 games.

Fullback Connor Parke scored Devonport’s other goal, in the 74th minute, Garrido having scored in the 4th, 49th and 94th minutes.
Devonport are 13 points ahead of second-placed South Hobart at the end of Round 20.
South Hobart had a tough game against Clarence Zebras at South Hobart Oval on Sunday and just ran out 3-2 winners.
They fell behind to an 18th-minute goal by Riley Dillon, who cut in from the left and beat keeper Jake Hayers at his near post.
South Hobart centre-back Jacob Lancaster then scored twice in two minutes from set-pieces early in the second half.

In the 52nd minute, he headed home a free-kick from the left, while in the 53rd minute, he hammered the loose ball into the roof of the net from 8 metres after the Clarence Zebras defence failed to clear a free-kick from the right.
Josh Divin picked up Bradley Lakoseljac’s pass to score South Hobart’s third 20 minutes from the end.
Clarence Zebras weren’t finished yet, however, and Sam Tooze pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 with 15 minutes remaining.

The visitors searched for an equaliser without success and their defeat was soured when Dillon received a second yellow card and was sent off in stoppage time.
Kingborough Lions United ensured they will finish at least third by downing Launceston City 3-0 away at Bucky Motors Park on Saturday.
Kobe Kemp gave the southerners the lead after just 2 minutes, while Romero Vilar made it 2-0 midway through the opening half.
Noah Mies netted the third against his former club with 8 minutes remaining.

Both clubs are a different stages, previously Olympia’s youth have been miles ahead of Clarence. This season has seen some changes in that with Clarence’s youth surprisingly better. I have noticed around a third of Olympia’s youth players have left at the start of this season hence the results.
