Former Hobart Juventus goalkeeper Rocco Travierso caught up with former Hobart Juventus and Middlesbrough midfielder Peter Brine in Brisbane this week.

They and a group of Middlesbrough fans from Brisbane had a reunion at the Pig and Whistle and recalled the old days on Teeside.

“We all had a great time chatting and laughing about the good old days when footballers were real men and not mercenaries, and players really played for the shirt and the club,” said Teeside Trev, the organiser of the shindig.

“Peter kept us all entertained with his stories about Big Jack Charlton and all of his team mates from the golden era of the 70s.

“We also enjoyed watching an old video entitled “Boro's 101 Greatest Goals”, which included a Peter Brine super goal against Bristol City.

“Peter is hoping to catch up with us all next time he visits Brisbane, and said that his old mate, Jim Platt, is visiting in 2011, and he hopes to bring him to Brisbane to meet up with us.”

Oh for this sort of thing in Hobart! I tell you, the guys that used to play here...

Incidentally, Rocco Travierso wrote a book a few years back about goalkeeping and he listed some of Tasmania’s greatest that he played with or against.
