Clarence
United completed their NPL Tasmania season on Sunday with their 23rd
loss from 24 games when they went down 8-0 at home at Wentworth Park to newly
crowned champions Devonport City.
Clarence,
the bottom side, have conceded 160 goals in those 24 games and have scored just
eight.
Miles
Barnard netted twice to remain level on 29 goals with Hobart Zebras’ Mathew
Sanders in the race for the Golden Boot Award.
Raphael Reynolds hit a hat-trick for Devonport, while the remaining goals came from
Joel Stone, Daniel Syson and Max Fitzgerald.
Second-placed
Olympia Warriors beat second-last Riverside Olympic 4-2 away at Windsor Park in
Launceston on Saturday and their two import, Englishmen Jordan Scott and Jack
Ryan, grabbed two goals each.
Third-placed
South Hobart will hang on to their position despite going down 2-1 to fifth-ranked
Glenorchy Knights at home at South Hobart Oval on Sunday.
Sam
Berezansky hit the opener for South Hobart after 13 minutes, but Alex
Leszczynski equalised for Knights with a penalty in the 32nd minute
after South keeper Graeme Wright had brought down Alex Bellini.
Nick
Naden scored the winner 15 minutes from the end after receiving a pass from
Thomas Bellini.
It
was the final game for Knights keeper Dmitri Nester, who is retiring after an
illustrious career with Olympia Warriors and Glenorchy Knights.
Fourth-placed
Hobart Zebras won 4-0 away against fellow Italian-backed club Launceston City
on Saturday.
Mathew
Sanders scored twice, while the other goals came from Nicky Edwards and Jayden
Hey.
Sixth-ranked
Kingborough Lions United had the bye.
They played last Wednesday and drew 1-1 with South Hobart.

Surely relegation of Clarence men’s and south’s women’s is on the horizon.
Not if they merge with Zebras. Easy way of staying in the league for Clarence.

I may have missed it in an earlier post, but what happened in the end to Olympia's appeal against the possible three-point deduction? Wasn't it supposed to happen towards the end of August when George M got back from overseas?
Walter, keen to hear your thoughts on this proposed merger between Zebras and Clarence, a Western shore club merging with an Eastern shore club for mine sounds more like a Clarence takeover than a merger, Zebras will lose everything except the name Zebras, the bulk of their senior and junior players will walk here, not wanting the travel or Clarence name associated with them.
12:57 what a load of garbage. Clarence are not in the position to take over anything. Olympia need to be scared. They are a club in disarray and this merger shifts the balance towards Clarence Zebras. This will be a good thing.
Sick of comments saying both clubs will be stronger.
There is only one club that will be stronger and we all know
which that is.
If this goes ahead Zebras will disappear like Callie’s have done
with the Kingborough merger.
