All four quarterfinals of the Lakoseljac Cup are scheduled for the south of the State this weekend.
Kelvedon Park at 2pm tomorrow is the stage for Championship side Taroona’s battle with NPL giants Glenorchy Knights.
Taroona players Sam Johnson, Luke Warrener, Jake Stuart and Sam James have all played for Knights and will know something first-hand about the visitors.
The Knights are second on the NPL ladder and are in fine fettle and should win this tie to make it to the semi-finals.
The Knights will again miss midfielder Alex Bellini, who is injured, but everyone else is fit.
Knights goalkeeper Lachlan Hart is looking forward to the game.
“Our defence has been superb and we look rock solid after a bumpy start against Kingborough in the first league game,” Hart said.
“The Taroona game will be a tricky one for us.
“They’ve got a few of our former players and that’ll add fuel to the fire.
“Hopefully it’s a good game. It’s at Taroona so they’ll be up for it and I hope it’ll be a good game.”
Southern Championship title-holders Hobart United entertain the NPL’s bottom-side Launceston City at KGV Park at 4.30pm on Saturday.
This will be a tricky game for the northerners as Hobart United are in fine form and last weekend they beat league-leaders University.
City should have Noah Mies back and they will need his goalscoring prowess for this encounter.
On Sunday, South Hobart host Kingborough Lions United at South Hobart Oval at 2pm.
Kingborough may use former captain Nick Cuthbertson, who has been playing social football this season.
He would slot in at centre-back and release Danny Cowen into the attack.
South Hobart should be at full strength and former Newcastle Jets A-League player Andy Brennan may make his first start rather than being on the bench.
The remaining quarterfinal tie is scheduled for Warrior Park at 4.30pm on Sunday when Olympia Warriors host Southern Championship leaders University.
University have obtained the services of former Olympia player Hugh Undy, brother of University’s coach, Jake Undy, and he could cause his former team a few headaches.
Olympia are likely to be under the command of new coach Rob Clarke for the first time following the dismissal of Andrew Brown.
Former player Alex Holmes coached the side last weekend in the 2-1 win over South Hobart.
Callum and Declan Brown may well make an appearance after they sat out last week’s game following the departure of their father as coach of the club.
Olympia have had mixed fortunes in the league so far and this will be a difficult assignment for them.

In the Women’s State-wide Cup this weekend, top teams Clarence Zebras and Olympia Warriors should make it through to the semi-finals comfortably.
Clarence Zebras are likely to be too strong for visitors Northern Rangers.
The home side will miss defender Danielle Kannegiesser, who is receiving treatment for a calf injury, but everyone else is expected to be fit.
Chris Hey’s team will have been bolstered psychologically by their league win over Olympia Warriors in midweek and should be able to handle anything the Rangers throw at them.
Olympia Warriors are away to Beachside at Sandown Park at noon on Sunday and they should shrug aside the disappointment of last Wednesday’s league loss to Clarence Zebras and win comfortably.
The closest game may well be at Olinda Grove, where University host South Hobart.
University are bottom in the league, 6 points adrift of South Hobart, but home-ground advantage and the uncertainty of cup football could make this a close game.
The remaining quarter-final tie is at Lightwood Park at 2pm on Saturday and Women’s Super League outfit Kingborough Lions United should overcome northerners Riverside Olympic, who are in a mid-table position in the second-tier women’s league.

In the Under-20s State-wide Cup quarterfinals, there is only one north versus south showdown when Somerset host Sorell’s South East United at Cardigan Street on Saturday.
Somerset will start as favourites against this relatively new and inexperienced side from the south.
The other three ties promise to be close contests and there may be some extra-time required.

He appears to have been a staunch member of the Olympia Community since his arrival and certainly deserves better treatment than he received last week, if the post on this site was true. Good luck to him going forward.
Your previews are succinct but carry relevant information that others don't. Andy maybe starting for south for instance; just hope he gets enough time to begin to feel his game legs again! Undy playing for uni , good work Jake! Good to see a bit of brotherly cooperation in cup games . Slight side issue but just like to say I think the Olympia starting
lineup in the Laka final against knights with Mearns, Cartwright and Undy across midfield was the best team they've had. Undy's unpredictable movement in that first half was a joy to watch . Cartwright gives spine to any mid field and think Kingborough are really missing him. The shift of Cowan up front is another interesting thing you picked up . It's sure to be a closer encounter than last time for sure....so Go South!!
Just to let you Know Walter University are not the current Championship leaders. It is a close contest but they are in fact second on the ladder.
