Clarence Zebras NPL side is in action tonight at Sorell.

They will be playing Southern Championship side South East United in a pre-season friendly at Pembroke Park.

Clarence Zebras new import, central-defender Pritchard Adjei, made his debut last Saturday in the 2-0 loss to Launceston City in a Summer Cup game at Buckby Motors Park in Launceston.

He should again be on view tonight.

Clarence Zebras senior coach, Brett Pullen, has a new assistant coach in Croatian Ivan Klepic.

It will be interesting to see who starts in goal between Josh Jones and new signing from University, Manny Hennicke.

Jones returned to the action last week in the game against Launceston City after serving a one-week suspension after collecting two yellow cards in the Summer Cup.

Hennicke didnt make the trip to Launceston as he had a wedding to attend.

The Womens Super League 2023 season will be launched at Wrest Point Hotel Casino tomorrow at 11am.

It would appear that there will only be four teams competition in the Womens Southern Championship this year,

This is a ludicrous situation and will get very boring very soon.

I dont know what the solution is, but Football Tasmania has better get their thinking caps on and do something to save the season.

The game in Tasmania has lost some more well-known identities in recent weeks.

Former Olympia Warriors and Howrah United player Clinton Brown passed away in Sydney aged in his early 50s.

His son Liam plays for New Town White Eagles.

Burnie United stalwart Ron Smith also passed away recently.

He began his career with Burnie Rovers in 1967 just before Rovers amalgamated with Burnie Spartans to form Burnie United.

He played for a while with Ulverstone and then played and coached at Burnie United in the mid-1980s.

He gave back to the game by becoming a referee in 1989.

Rapid administrator and player Horst Meister passed away in Hobart recently aged in his 80s.

He was involved with Rapid in the 1970s and 1980s.

My condolences go to the family and friends of all three gentlemen.

South Hobart have lodged an expression of interest to Football Australia to participate in the proposes second-tier national competition which will sit below the A-League and which could see the light of day in 2024.

They are the only Tasmanian club to register an interest and it cost them $5,000 to do so.

Watch this space for developments.

*****

Olympia Warriors have signed three Brazilian players who had been playing for Beachside.

They are Danilo Franca, Alex Cordova and Fernandez Oliveira.

Cordova started on the bench in last Sundays 5-3 win over South Hobart in a Southern Championship Summer Cup game at South Hobart Oval.

The Southern Women’s Summer Cup Final will be played at South Hobart Oval at 11.45am on Saturday and is between Clarence Zebras and South Hobart.

The Southern men’s Championship final between Olympia Warriors and University kicks off at the dame venue at 2pm on Saturday.

*****

The Northern Men’s Championship Summer Cup Final is between Northern Rangers and Ulverstone on Saturday at 2pm at Ulverstone.

Northern Rangers made the final with a 6-0 thrashing of Launceston City on Wednesday night.

Devonport Strikers’ latest import has arrived.

He is Luke Bennett, who has been playing with Milligan University Buffaloes in American College Football.

He hails from Southampton in the UK and has been a team-mate of Devonport’s ace striker, Roberto Garrido, in the past.

Bennett is generally a midfielder but can play in other positions.

I enjoy these news snippet posts Walter, thank you. Looking forward to the Summer Cup finals at Darcy St on Saturday, might go watch live if weather is good.

Is there another way of watching the cup finals?

The solution for both the WSL and Women's championship teams are to combine the two leagues together and give the girls something to play for.

Good to see that SH have the $5k to splash out for a application fee.
No wonder they are having gates for entry for games starting from under 7 games.

Hopefully they'll be enough daylight for the Metro and Taroona game since it is kicking off at 4pm at KGV.

12:19 Have a look at hockey they charge at every game no matter the level. Then look at their facilities, a lifetime ahead of the world game in this state.

Anonymous said...

Anon 1.26pm.
And the hockey facility is no longer suitable for world level competition.
They are about to upgrade thanks to $1m + from the state government.
How much better will it be then?
Fair enough for hockey to charge entry with a facility like that.
No where near the standard of Darcy St.
South cant even run a canteen ! I thought this was an NPL license requirement.
I presume the TD at FT can enlighten us on this subject ? Maybe that has changed and I am wrong.

Why are Devonport allowed to have three Imports when the FFT rules are that NPL teams are only allowed two.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:19.

I don't think that any of the money that is charged at hockey games goes back into the facilities.
I think like anon 1:26pm said, the money for those facilities comes from state government money.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:53pm.

They can have as many imports as they want, just as long as they only start with 2 on the field at any one time.

Devonport are allowed 3 Visa Players because all clubs are allowed 3 Visa Players - no change this year

Hockey - cracking surface (FFT note that it is watered before a game), excellent lighting, hygienic toilets and facilities.

You could also include cricket, AFL and now basketball to the list of sports at the top level, that have terrific grounds.

The soccer community has been wiped, like a dirty backside.

Sad to hear of the passing of Ronnie Smith. A great player for Burnie Rovers & a tough opponent in the 60s & 70s. Condolences to friends & family

Clarence can sign as many players as they want still will finish fourth and play bad football, hoof and hope

Your a really sad person who's obviously been rejected on the Eastern shore. Every thread you pop up bashing CLZ. Same garbage comments everytime.

Since the inception of the NPL only 2 teams have spent a fortune to win the competition. Both only once. Ones no longer in the NPL while the other now the cash has run out is slipping back to mid table or possibly worse.

Not a ball been kicked and Devonport already being accused of cheating and preferential treatment! At least wait for the first couple of rounds to play out before the conspiracy theories start.

Anon 8.02.
And the club that has spent more than anyone else without winning anything
in last 2 years is…………Clarence.
You must be new to the game!

Anonymous said...

Last 20 years not 2 years.

Anonymous said...

Oh I think the chances are I've been around the game longer than you. Your comment shows your bias. They haven't had any money to spend in the last 2 years.
Just tell us why they didn't want you. Then it might make sense.

Anon 1.15 AM.
I made an error in above post stating 2 years.
I corrected that to 20 years directly below the original comment so read that again please and you may understand what I was referring to.
Then again ..........maybe not.

The old chestnut from zebras ,you must have been rejected.
From what I have seen players tend to leave your club, maybe you should look at your culture.
The money you have spent over the years is more than others ,just you have had no success.
The Italian community are behind Beachside.

Anonymous said...

Its funny you think I support them. I don't. Just pointing out your continued attack on that club. It seems personal so my guess is you've been rejected by them in some form. It's not a chestnut just an observation. I will also point out something pretty obvious. Zebras and Clarence ceased to exist a few years ago. This club hadn't had 20 years.

Anon 10.01.
You comment is interesting and I quote " Just pointing out your continued attack on that club."
How do you know the comments are from one person ? Think about it.
That club has spent huge money in the last 20 years and have nothing to show for it. You can't argue with that and if you do you don't know what you are talking about.

Anonymous said...

Anon 8.36am
I didn't think that Clarence Zebras were around 20 years ago. Feel free to dispute that though.

Anonymous said...

The club that no longer exists probably did. As I clearly know what im talking about , your observations are of an old club. Your trying to pin it on the new club. Geez you must have been butt hurt so bad. Oh and how do we know its just one person ? It's that bloody obvious it's just you thats why.

Anon 1.13pm
I agree with you. Definitely one person making these silly comments. LOL.

Anonymous said...

So funny how people with no clue talk so much very entertaining though 😂😂

All this talk of ground upgrades or a new stadium “The largest single investment in Tasmanian football was announced…with the Federal Government granting $12.8 million” Walter 2019 what a wasted opportunity to make a decent ground out of what we have
