NPL top-four should increase the gap between themselves and the bottom-four today

Glenorchy Knights should retain first place in the NPL Tasmania standings today when they host second-last Riverside Olympic at KGV Park at 4.45pm.

Knights coach James Sherman is not dismissing Riverside as an opponent and thinks they could be dangerous.

“It won’t be easy,” Sherman said.  “Absolutely not.

“I don’t think so.

“I thought they were quite strong against Launceston City [in mid-week, particularly in the second half.

“Other than not taking some chances, they certainly asked enough questions of Launceston City.

“I thought they responded pretty well.”

Sherman said he would have the same squad as the previous week but would not be drawn on the accrual starting eleven.

Second=placed Devonport City, the title holders, entertain Launceston City at Valley Road at 4.30pm today.

The visitors had their first league win on Wednesday and Devonport cannot take them lightly.

Launceston City are coached by two former Devonport players in Nathan Pitchford and Daniel Syson and former Devonport star Joel Stone is also in the team so the visitors will know exactly what to expect.

Third-placed South Hobart are away to bottom-side Launceston United at Birch Avenue at 2.15pm today and the visitors will start as favourites.

If Devonport and Knights slip up, South Hobart could be the new leaders in the NPL.

Fourth-placed Kingborough Lions United travel across the River Derwent to take on sixth-placed Clarence Zebras at Wentworth Park at 2.30pm today.

The Lions are very dangerous and Clarence Zebras, who have lost both their league games to date, will be hard-pressed to get anything out of this match.

Port and City… if that is the standard of the NPL now, the state of football is in trouble.

Please enlighten us on why the NPL standard is in trouble?

Tend to agree. Take away the ‘imports’ and there is not much local talent. Blokes can’t string more than 3 passes together

I am sure people in Tasmania don't watch football from other parts of the world.
They would realise how shit it is here.
