Olympia Warriors’ back-up goalkeeper Darby Randall will get the chance to face his former club when the Warriors host Clarence United at Warrior Park today at 7pm.
Olympia Warriors’ back-up goalkeeper Darby Randall will get the chance to face his former club when the Warriors host Clarence United at Warrior Park today at 7pm.
Olympia’s
number-one keeper, Kyle McDonald, was sent off in last Saturday’s game against
Riverside Olympic after just 21 minutes.
Olympia
went on to win 5-0, but McDonald is suspended for tonight’s match.
Clarence
will be missing key player Paul Bremner, who was sent off after just 21 minutes
in the 9-0 defeat to Devonport City at Valley Road last Saturday.
Clarence’s
loss is the greater, given that Bremner is one of their most experienced and
dangerous players.
Bremner
had just returned from a one-week suspension after being dismissed in the 5-0
defeat to Glenorchy Knights and this, his second send-off, could see him miss
the next three games.
It
was the last thing Clarence needed as they go into this Eastern Shore derby
between two clubs who are fierce rivals.
Darby
Randall will come up against his brother, Sam, who plays fullback for Clarence,
but they probably won’t come into direct face-to-face confrontation given their
positions.
Darby
Randall has been in goal for Olympia’s seniors before, so it won’t be an
entirely new experience for him and he should be a safe replacement for McDonald.
Olympia
will also have winger Warren Wadawu back after a long absence through injury
and that will add potency to their attack.
Jack
Ryan and Joffrey N’Koso are in goalscoring form for Olympia up front, with Ryan
scoring a brace and N’Koso a hat-trick against Riverside last weekend.
This
pair could inspire the Warriors to a goal-feast against a team that has
conceded 44 goals in their five outings to date and who have yet to find the
net themselves.
Football
is often regarded as unpredictable, which makes it such a popular sport, and
games do not generally come as predictable as this one.
Clarence
will have absolutely no chance tonight, despite the possible absence in the
Olympia line-up of Mark Ortmann (work commitments), Lucas Hill (broken nose),
Bay Kurtz (injured) and Ryan Cook (injured).

Clarence
coach Warren Burt can shuffle his pack any way he likes, but he simply cannot
come up with a combination that will beat Olympia.
Burt’s
charges will give it their best shot, of course, but it will not be enough to
tame the Warriors.
An
Olympia win will see them draw level with South Hobart in second place.
If
Olympia can win by more than 13 goals, they will go into second spot on
goal-difference.
South
Hobart did, indeed, beat Clarence 13-0 recently, so such a high score is not
beyond the bounds of possibility and the Warriors will surely be made aware of
this and encouraged to go for it.
If
you enjoy seeing goals, Warrior Park could be the place to be tonight.

Olympia 7-0 Clarence
What about second half?
Does anyone know how to fix football in this State. After seven years the Top flight Men's and Women's competitions are a shambles. As it seems to me that FFT want to kill football.
Can't get the under pinning competitions right or even aligned so that the next tier down are at the same venue in the south.
Seven years on and resources are stretched to the limit. No idea how to implement promotion/relegation.
correct me if I'm wrong in what I have said because to me football is not heading in the right direction.
Same old year in year out.
Bring back John Boulos . The only one with the cahunas to get things done.
It would be worth the money.
