Devonport just might increase their lead at the top of the NPL Tasmania standings

Devonport City, should maintain their 4-point lead at the top of the NPL Tasmania standings this weekend by beating sixth-placed Riverside Olympia at Valley Road at 2.15pm tomorrow [Saturday].

Devonport won 1-0 away at Windsor Park in the first meeting between the sides, but this game is Valley Road and Devonport should find the task somewhat easier.

The North-West Coast outfit, who are the reigning champions, were in fine fettle last week when they downed South Hobart 4-1 away, but they will need to defend better and not rely so much on goalkeeper Nathan Pitchford to save their bacon.

Second-placed Glenorchy Knights entertain third-ranked Kingborough Lions United at KGV Park at 4.30pm and this could be a danger game for the Knights as they seek to stay in touch with leaders Devonport.

The Lions beat them 2-0 in their previous meeting and so the warning signs are there.

Kingborough may have Shane Cartwright back after a lengthy absence, while their talisman, Adam McKeown, has his sights aligned and is ready to score goals.

Knights’ central defenders Oscar Thomas and Tyler Harrison will undergo a searching test against McKeown and his partner in attack, who could be Danny Cowen.

Olympia Warriors should be too strong for Clarence Zebras, despite the latter having pulled off a shock 1-0 win the first time they met.

“The current form is good and we’ve won the last three games,” said Olympia president, George Mamacas.

“I’m not a results person and it’s just how it is now and I’m not interested in that [the fact the club changed coaches] any more.

“The last time we met it was the first time we met this club in a derby so they’re one nil up.

“In terms of a derby, I can tell you that Clarence, in its previous form, hasn’t won at Warrior Park since 13 April 2012.

“I guess we’ll see what they do on the weekend, but I just hope perhaps that the old Clarence supporters can turn up and the new Italian Clarence supporters can turn up.

“I just see them as Clarence because if you keep the red stripe in the strip nothing has changed and it’s just Clarence.

“It’s Clarence with the colours red, white and black, and the first name on the strip is Clarence and they’re still at Wentworth Park.

“Tomorrow, we’ll probably call them Clarence and not much has changed as they’re still in the bottom half of the table.

“It’s up to the public to decide and their own coaching staff to decide.

“It doesn’t worry us as we’re still at Warrior Park and, in reality, not much has changed [on the Eastern Shore].”

South Hobart dropped to fifth after last weekend’s games and they travel to Launceston tomorrow to face bottom-side Launceston City at Buckby Land Rover Park at 4.30pm.

Launceston City have been poor in the league but good in the Lakoseljac Cup, where they have reached the semi-finals.

South Hobart should win if they take their chances.

City will be relying on Noah Mies for goals and, if he is at his best, City could be worth a point.

What a clearly bitter man you are George. I hope Clarence Zebras beat you again.

Interesting Walter you mention his ground announcing. Only a tool can announce another teams score as Zeroooo.

No 5-0 whipping in round 1 between Lions and Knights Walter, more a frustrating 2-0 loss that has been driving Knights ever since. Will be a different scoreline this time around but a danger game nonetheless.

Yes he is bitter and twisted but give it to them George.
They deserve it.

I think you'll find Lions beat Knights 2-0 round 1, not 5-0

5:43, glad someone else finds that ridiculous “zero” comment annoying.

Reading George's dribble, does anyone else get the same feeling as watching a certain pompous, disrespectful, unattractive POTUS? Not results driven? Calling BS on that one. There is nothing but results for the Olympic president, that's why they can't hold a coach for much longer than a few months.

Seriously George ? You really do think your the be all and end all with your silly hat collection , your a very bitter man indeed , grow some grass at warrior park ditch the silly music and siren and the microphone and actually win a competition without spending 100k and we might take you seriously on the Eastern Shore , why would anyone even bother to invite you to a Media conference when you spew out insults about other clubs and not your own failures?

Quote of the year from Little George Mamamamacas, “” I’m not a Results Person ‘l. Oh we definitely can see that George !

Walter, have you misquoted George where he says he is NOT a results person??? If not, then that is the funniest thing I have read on this blog. I have seen him get very wound up a number of times when his team are losing.

And as for his press conference comments re Clarence Zebras, it is sad to see a club president thinking that this is the way you publicly represent your club.

The bloke is entertaining you and winding you all up. You can see the smiles and smirks and almost the laughter as he says it. Why do you take this so seriously?
Take it for what it is entertainment for the masses with no malice whatsoever intended.

George you are so disrespectful as I would like to see you behave like this on the mainland because I would know what would happen.
Football Tasmania should have a word or two as this damages the game , gives it a bad look and the list goes on but I doubt it as Football Tasmania don't have the balls as everyone knows.

Karma says a bad weekend for warriors.
results: even in the Championship. Go Hobart United!

A blind man could see this was staged for media entertainment. It’s a sad serious world some of you live in. Relax, smile like Mamacas and enjoy the game .

In addition to sanitizer at Warrior Park, tissues will be available for those who need it.

George's fishing trip has worked beautifully hook, line and sinker. Come on Clarence!

I am imagining George sitting back having a great laugh at all these comments. As usual the hyper ventilating perpetually outraged commenters have provided him with the bite he was chasing, like fish in a barrel. Well played.

I want to completely disagree that his comments are bad for the game. It adds to the drama and creates good guys and bad guys which is what makes sport so much fun all over the world. It's not supposed to be friends v friends...gee BRS you must have hated Ferguson v Wenger or Ferguson v Mourinho. How come the English FA didn't step in the way you want FFT to do...they mustn't have the balls either...or did they think it was great theatre and good for business?

It may be some little man humour to some but that sort of goading is the reason so many hate Olympia , a distraction from the turmoil that has embroiled Olympi more like it

Anonymous said...

Yep. He looks like a genius after tonight's result.

I’m imaging George throwing himself on the floor and throwing a complete hissy fit now. George, he who laughs last, laughs loudest!!!

1:30pm this is not the Premier League this is the Mickey Mouse League with Mickey & Donald and don't forget Goofy. George plays all three.

1:30pm
You never see the Presidents/CEO of premier leagues clubs go at it's only the coaches or is George now the coach of Olympia.
