Until Glenorchy Knights get a better work rate and hardness across their midfield (except Mierns) they will struggle, let alone their inability to finish in front of goal. They need a killer instinct and have done for a couple of seasons. Quite frankly there are players in that team that are not up to NPL standard. One skilled ponies who get it right once in a blue moon and think that is good enough, there are others that are surviving on past glories and reputations. The new import keeper showed his worth on Saturday, a proper professional performance. Unless changes are made it could be a long disappointing season for them. The defence is solid, there are some very Good youngsters in the side, might be time to get rid of dead wood and let some enthusiastic players shine.

In reply to March 26 7.22pm. Always intriguing to read comments such as yours. You convinced me to watch the replay. Did you miss out on a position in the Knights NPL team or possibly your an ex Knights player & friend of Mierns? Not sure which. If your talking about players not being up to NPL standard, one would have thought you would target a Northern team such as Riverside just for example. You speak of good youngsters in the side except for 1 mentioned midfielder. Look at the replay my friend. There’s a very young player ( possibly no.18?). Near to zero possession & when in possession loses the ball, look at the second half of the game, younger players subbed on with zero benefit to the game. I do agree midfield needs some work but only the second game in so a little early for criticism.

In reply to March 26 7.22pm. The week before with Schmidt as the deepest midfielder they were fine. Interesting that you would leave Mearns in when it was his side of midfield that was being exploited by Launceston City. Not necessarily Mearns' fault, Knights played a narrow diamond midfield which left City's dangerous left back unopposed and free to drift inside. The onus is then on Mearns, the tall striker (Lucas?), the young centre attacking midfielder (18 year old), and Castaneda (CDM this weekend) to slide across quickly and squeeze that space. I also watched the game and it was very clear that both the outside centre midfielders (Mearns and Undy) worked themselves into the ground trying to squeeze across to the oppositions fullbacks and protect the centre of the pitch. They both also won a LOT of tackles, headers and hard ball gets. So either you didn't watch the game to make your comment about work rate and hardness (although I would agree to some extent with Castaneda and the youngster for this game) or you have some kind of agenda with your comments here. Maybe a parent of a midfielder on the fringes? When Schmidt and Yost come back into the side the diamond midfield could work and they will need Turner up forward to provide some urgency, actual runs for the midfielders and full backs, and aerial prowess.

March 28, 7:18 PM I reckon you are referring to Knight's #18 on the day, not their 18 year old (as he's 16yo)
