New Town Eagles beat Kingborough Lions United 4-1 at home at Clare Street today, but were unable to improve their position on the Forestry Tasmania Southern Premier League ladder.

Eagles remain sixth and the Lions, with a slightly better goal-difference, fifth.

After a dull opening half, in which Kingborough’s Charles White clipped the Eagles bar with a fine shot, the visitors took the lead in the 67th minute through Greg Freeman.

Freeman eluded Mark Page down the right and fired low inside the far post with goalkeeper Michael Soszynski helpless.

Adam McKeown headed Eagles level in the 72nd minute from Jacob Kavanagh’s corner.

In the 78th minute, Wade Savage put McKeown through on the right with a free-kick from his own half and he netted to give Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Six minutes from the end, a perfect pass by McKeown to Cormac Collins on the left saw the substitute hammer home Eagles’ third.

Eagles added a fourth in the 86th minute when another Savage free-kick found McKeown, who completed his hat-trick with a header.

In the reserves, Eagles beat Lions 4-2, after being level at 2-2 at half-time, through two goals by Matt Fennell and one apiece from Adam Shackcloth and Michael Anderson.

Eagles beat Lions 2-1 in the under-19s.

Collin's inconsistency is disgusting, goal or no goal he shouldn't be even in the premier league.
