South Hobart were held to a 0-0 draw by bottom-side University at South Hobart today but still moved a point clear at the top of the Premier League standings.

The result paves the way for Tilford Zebras to move to the top if they can beat Kingborough Lions United away at Lightwood Park on Sunday.

“They came to defend and to get a point, and that’s what they did,” said Ken Morton, coach of South Hobart, whose side twice hit the woodwork.

Sixth-placed Glenorchy Knights beat fifth-placed New Town Eagles 3-1 away at Clare Street after trailing to an excellent goal by Adam McKeown after just 19 minutes.

Second-half goals by Jackson Marsh and Amadu Koroma, the latter netting twice, gave Knights the points and enabled them to switch places with Eagles on the ladder.

The Knights had a very young team, with Ben Peter, Tony Dzelalija, Josh Fielding and Mynonge Kamba all on the bench.

Alex Tatnell took Peter’s place in goal and produced two outstanding saves, against Shane Kent and Andrew Clark.

Clark also hit the woodwork from close range for Eagles.

Eagles keeper, Michael Soszynski, produced a miraculous save against Tom Sherman in the second half.

Second-last Hobart Olympic scored twice through Michael Bulis just before the break against Clarence United to make it 2-2 at the interval in their match at Wentworth Park last night.

Luke Cripps and Chris Hunt had put Clarence 2-0 up before Olympic’s revival.

But, Cripps completed his hat-trick in the second half with a penalty and a far-post header from substitute Rowan Heggie’s marvellous cross to give the home side a comfortable win.

Olympic were without goalkeeper Dmitri Nester, who was interstate, and Chris Tsakiris, who was injured.

Olympic were caught off-side an incredible 14 times and had substitute Lincoln Conquest sent off the bench. He was injured in the warm-up and did not play, but was still on the team-sheet.

Beachside beat Christian United 7-2 in last night’s Division One match at Sandown Park.

Bernhard Klasen hit a hat-trick and Sebastian Milford and Colin Wain each scored a brace for Beachside, who led 2-1 at the break.

Ashley Page and Isaac Golo, the latter with a penalty conceded by Ben Davis, netted for Christian, who had Jesse Arnold sent off in the second half with his side trailing 4-2.

In the Premier Reserve League, Eagles downed Knights 3-2 and Olympic beat Clarence 3-0 through goals by Colin Banks, Emmanuel Tsakiris and Omar Shabanel.

Eagles' marksmen were Ben Whitehall, Adam Shackcloth and Matt Fennell, while Matt Nowicki and Nektar Vavoulas replied for Knights.

Goals by Rowan Franklin and Jai David gave South Hobart a 2-0 win over University.

In the Under-19s, Knights overcame Eagles 4-2, Clarence beat Olympic 5-0, and University accounted for South Hobart 5-0.

Clarence's Chris Nicholson grabbed a hat-trick, while Sam Jacob abd Luke Wilcock scored once each.

In Division Two, Beachside lost 4-2 to Eagles White.

In the Northern Premier League, Devonport City beat Somerset 3-1 through goals by Nathan Gratton, Sean Howe and Chris McKenna.

Jonathon Lo replied for Somerset.

Prospect Knights beat Burnie United 3-2, Launceston City overcame Launceston United 4-1 away, and Riverside Olympic were 3-0 victors over the visiting Ulverstone.

Interesting results this week end so far. Knights turn to youth and get a result....The students finally got on the score board and Clarence got back back on the winning track. The only comment that confuses me is the reference to Olympic being caught offside 14 times. I cannot understand why that would be worth a mention. What does it mean....that they can't play the game or that the the referees assistant was doing something wrong?? Just seems a strange comment to me.

Or...........they might just have been caught offside um 14 times

Now now roundball, settle down. Clarence's back four have gelled well, and have continued to catch opposition players offside, have a look at the past stats, last week vs South it was exactly the same. Interesting results, very interesting.

I have to disagree with what Ken Morton said about how University came to defend and get a point. From where I was watching it looked as if Uni were doing quite a bit of attacking and maybe could have even snuck it at the end

Agree with spectator, Uni had their chances including an easy one on one that was denied by a dubious free kick decision. Although lacking a bit of fire power up front, they are much fitter and definitely competitive.
