Metro must beat Hobart United to win Division One title and gain promotion

Second-placed Metro can win the Division One title and gain promotion to the Premier League by beating fifth-placed Hobart United at home at North Chigwell at 2.30pm on Saturday in the final match of the season.

A loss or draw for Metro would hand the title to Taroona, which currently leads by two points.

Hobart United beat wooden-spooner Christian United 4-1 at KGV Park on Wednesday through two goals by Akuel Guot and one each by Justin Letiko and Adam Woodward.

This will have been good preparation for this clash and Metro will need to be at its best to win.

Metro have had good numbers at training, with the reserves and the under-19s also in line for their respective titles.

Ryan Murtagh may be included in the Metro squad after scoring 10 goals in his last three under-19 games.

Defender Sam Sweeney has recovered from injury and will be fit to play.

Metro recently beat Hobart United 3-1 away at Pontville, so form indicates Metro should be victorious again and earn promotion.

Hobart United coach Mark Broadbent believes his side can beat Metro.

“I do believe we can beat them,” said Broadbent. “Very much so after the last viewing.

“I think that Metro are vulnerable.

“They rely too much on individual players.

“I think if we are patient and if we stick to our game plan and our strategy we might be able to cause an upset.”

In Wednesday night’s other match, a goal by Jordan Brighella in the 63rd minute gave fourth-placed Nelson Eastern Suburbs a 1-0 win over second-last Northern Suburbs DOSA.

Meanwhile, Tasmanian Institute of Sport youngster Eli Luttmer, 15, failed to make the cut off for the Australian under-16s after attending a training camp in Canberra last week.

He has been put on stand-by as an emergency.

Well. It all boils down to this for Div1.

A win to Metro will see Taroona miss out by 1 point after losing only 1 game this season.
If Metro draw they will miss out after not having lost a game all year.

For mine, it'll be an expensive point that Metro will have bought versus investing similar amounts in local talent.

Go United.

Southern, your comments are so very true. Metro invest in local talent???

Never have I seen such a thing happen!!!

Maybe we will get our under 7-14 lads & girls teams to go play under one of the many other clubs that offer this service in Div 1.

I'm sure those guys will have no hesitation to send many of their junior kids off around the country to play against kids that most of our "local talent" will never have the opportunity to do.

Please sir, do me a favour and pull your head out of your a**. At the very least have some respect in what Metro has done for their juniors for many years and many more years to come.

Maybe you should go and have a chat to the young lads in the senior squad and see how much of a good influence the Scottish boys have had on them too.

Get on the mets for 09 - I sure hope we can get that trophy to give the boys that have stood up this year some recognition that they well deserve.

Aaron Marney for a brace for the mets to win by a few.

Southern,

no response so I can only assume you have realised the stupidity of your comments which smack of jealousy from someone whose club does not invest in local talent.

I would invite you if your not going to be there, however from the nature of your blog I'm sure you will be, to come out and watch Metro's local talent on display starting with our Under 19's.
