The Forestry Tasmania Northern Premier League was officially launched this evening at Devonport City’s Valley Road headquarters, with Football Federation Tasmania’s referees’ manager Robert Freke and Forestry Tasmania’s Ken Jefferies hosting the proceedings.

Mr Freke publically posed questions to club representatives, while Mr Jefferies informed the attendees about his company’s sponsorship plans for the coming season, which kicks off on Saturday.

Devonport City, Prospect Knights, Northern Rangers, Ulverstone, Burnie United and Riverside Olympic were the only Northern Premier League clubs in attendance.

The absentees were Launceston City, Launceston United and Somerset.

Mr Jefferies said that his company has had to reduce the level of its community sponsorship from $100,000 in 2009 to $70,000 in 2010 because of the downturn in the forestry industry, but that its support for FFT would remain the same as in 2009.

The Women’s Northern Premier League was represented by Ulverstone’s two women’s teams, Burnie United and Northern Rangers.

The opening round of the men’s Forestry Tasmania Northern Premier League this weekend features reigning champions Northern Rangers taking on Prospect Knights away at Harley Parade, Riverside Olympic hosting Launceston City, Burnie United welcoming Launceston United, and Somerset taking on Ulverstone.
