South Hobart had a vigorous training session on Tuesday night in preparation for Saturday’s Summer Cup final against Glenorchy Knights.
Senior coach Ken Morton supervised training for his senior squad and all players were present.
The reserves, under Jed Donohue, had three newcomers who may sign for the club soon.
One is former Wollongong Wolves player Dean Jones, 36, whose technical skills looked excellent.
A French player was also on view, as was a former player in New South Wales who was with South briefly a couple of seasons ago.
Meanwhile, Eamonn Kelly will not be at Saturday’s final.
The Glenorchy Knights coach will be attending a wedding in Wollongong and the team will be coached by Nick Harrison.

Matthew Bulkeley, the FFA Head of Game Development, and Han Berger, FFA’s National Technical Director, made a lightning visit to Tasmania last week to talk to FFT officials.
FFT was tight-lipped about the visit, but it is believed that it concerned the ban on State players participating in non-FFT academies, including Vikings Futsal and Ken Morton’s Soccer School.
It is believed that FFT has decided to allow State players to participate in such academies, which goes against the grain as far as FFA are concerned, and as far as FFT’s own coaching and development manager, Steve Payne is concerned.
I interviewed FFT president Sean Collins about the matter but did not get far.
Walter Pless: Sean, I believe some FFA people came down to Tasmania last week. Can you tell me about that, please?
Sean Collins: Correct. Yes, we did have a couple of FFA people down for a chat.
WP: Who were they?
SC: Han Berger and Matt Bulkeley.
WP: What did they come to talk about?
SC: Just a general chat about how some of the programs were going.
WP: Were you pleased with the meeting?
SC: Yep.
WP: Was this a scheduled visit by them, or was it a surprise visit?
SC: No, it wasn’t a surprise. Scheduled.
WP: Is it part of an Australia-wide consultation with various authorities?
SC: Well, I guess you’ll have to ask them about that. I don’t know how they structure their visits.
WP: Can you tell me what came out of the meeting?
SC: No, nothing really specific.

How about being honest and transparent about the issue/s FFT ?
The reponses to Walter's questions appear smug, uninformative and to be hiding something.
Be honest to the people/clubs that keep your oranisation in a job.
Agree with interested this smacks of arrogance by our controlling bodies and the answers to walters questions are indicative of the negativity it exudes to us all.
FFA not liking state players being involved with the likes of futsal and mortons clinics --- mmmm --- running scared id say because these both have shown foresight and endeavor to move forward with decent development ( clear by numbers involved and on the increase) or maybe its jelousy at the amount of people who attend there games compared to the mammoth 80 heads counted at resent premier league game.
One would think the powers that be would embrace the upsurge in the sport and try to simulate there efforts for all our benefit
very thorough interview with the new face of the fft. he really is giving the public what they want to hear. maybe a program in media would help change the publics "frosty" attitude towards collins
that last comment sums up FFT, i dont and many others dont understand where your organization is at, fft get your act together, your a joke.
Div 1 only a couple of weeks away. Rumour is only 4 or 5 teams can fill reserve & u/19 teams, with Uni/Beachside/Hobart Utd all struggling.
This being part of the FFT criteria to enter Div 1, teams may play each other 4 times in the roster.
Vikings shows no foresight, they are rip off merchants.
But agree that FFT are not very transparent with their responses.
poor from knights coach not attending the game? will be a very interesting game, battle for centre of the park dominance, dani white having a point to prove, both attacking teams, however the defence of both sides could be key to winning the game. Both very experienced teams, looking forward to a cracker.
it seems that stevesmug would have been a better appointment for president- he has more character atleast. surely walter, you must have been standing there trying to get something out of him. wet blanket.
Ladic would be happy Tony D isn't playing he is usually scared of him.
Anon if vikings are ripoffs for offering quality coaching excellent overseas trips against first class opposition and a well run competition then im all for being ripped off.
Far better to be ripped with style than ripped by fools with no or little objectivity and advancement prospects.
How many registered players do they have now mmmm 1500 plus -- on those stats there must be lots of people love being ripped off or maybe they see it how it really is
Quality coaching?
Who?
What licneses do they hold?
Overseas trips? You can tell the standard of these overseas trips, Michael Mckenna made the Australian team. Give me a break.
Hernane Caires ( BRASIL )
haha quality coaching from a player who gets sent off more games than he actually plays? quality coaching from people who know shit all about how to play football? thats what you get. try playing in a code that is actually recognised as legit.
nice to see south pick up a couple more players, i was starting to wonder if they had enough players to field a team...
seems the youth at south will continue to be pushed aside by kenny's imports/recruitments.
sad but true.
Give Sean a break, he has only just started in the position, he is obviously gaurded when talking with the media, as one should be. I am sure he will make announcements when he feels it's right, not when people ask him. The man played football for the Knights at premier league level and for other clubs as well, so he must have some idea about the game.
I know that Sean is putting a lot of time into football in this state because he believes in the game.
So unless people are prepared to run around week after week trying to control spoilt children on the park and then backing up, voluntarily to drive the FFT ship. Please offer support or at worst constructive criticism.
I'm interested in the Brazilian comments - I tried to translate via internet and this is what I got...
"The one to me she calls the attention is the dedication of Ken & she sweats staff about to the good course & success from the teams what comanda.Estar on end , is the sequel from the efforts & of the good acquittal by one I work Walter for on the proportionate esta view. Hernane I'll be falling"
Any one else do a better job?
Always interested in world view
"Anon 9:27am"
Surely FFT would not have Div 1 go ahead with 4 Clubs only.
Didn't the TIS enter div 1 also?
So that should be:
Southern FC
Dosa
Metro
Nelson
& TIS
With Beachside, Uni, Hobart Utd
Unlikely???
anon 1:28 who says the world game has 1 language because i didn't even understand what you wrote just then
Otherwordly I didn't translate the Brazillian Portuguese - I tried to have a computer do it for me. Obviously with no success!
That's why I request someone much smarter than I have a go or ask there Brazillian friend to translate and share with the rest of us.
what point does danni white have to prove the guy came here nearly 2years ago on holiday and whilst he was here decided he would play soccer he played 1 game for south in the final scored 2 goals and set the other up danni has never really been a south player
rumour as it that ken tried to take all the glory of bringing danni to tas but he was coming here anyway nothing to do with ken
TIS are in Premier Reserves comp.
State U15's are in Div1.
anonymus.why would you belittle mike mckennas archievement of making an aussie team?he must have been the best availlable at the time to be picked.personally i congratulate him for that archievement.it also seems that the new fft is allready getting bogged down with pettyfogging unimportant issues instead of finally removing that stupid rule that every div1 side must have an under 19 side.it does not put a single extra youthside on the park and it has only destroyed any chance of having a strong vibrant div1 that can put real pressure on premierleague sides.no point in whining about the standard of the game if you dont allow competition.for goodness sake remove all unnecesary obstacles and let the strongest teams that deserve it make up the top 3 divisions.also make more use of the lower leagues to put pressure on div 2 sides.let fft together with the clubs concentrate on making the clubs grow and find a way to get kids and other agegroups find their way into a club and double the number of participants in the sport.let the coaches do their job and identify the talent and develope it.having had the privilege of a couple of chats with ken morton and the south hobart president at the steve hudson cup i was impressed with their vision for the game and i cant see why they and others like them should find obstacles put in their way.
In terms of Futsal Michael Mckenna is the best goalkeeper I have seen or played against in Tassie, If not one of the best Futsal players in the state.
I think even Corey would admit he is one of the best.
In Sean's defence, he was caught on the hop with this unscheduled interview. Perhaps he should just have declined to be interviewed.
FFT should alert the media to visits by FFA officials and issue prepared statements about the outcomes of such visits. Not to do so, leads to speculation and information from other sources.
I know that Sean and his colleagues on the Board are doing the best they can, but the sooner they get a CEO on board the better. There's nothing like having someone who is full-time to run the show.
what was wrong with his answers Walter? I think he answered them perfectly.
He didn't have anything to say on the matter, and answered the questions as he should have.
Anonymous (2.57pm), some people are easily satisfied; i hope you're not from FFT because if you think those answers are satisfactory for interested stakeholders you're part of the problem. Completely lacking in transparency and ignoring the reality of the issues; clubs want to know whats going on.
Jerry, some of your comments regarding Div 1 sides having to fiels U 19 sides ,leave a lot to be desired. What pressure will these Div 1 sides place on the Premier League sides without good juniors coming through ?
It is up to each club to find and field U19 sides at least , forgetting the younger ones. That is the rule and so it should be.If Beachside for example win Div 1 and come up to the Premier League, where will they obtain an U19 side from ? The standard of the game in the future will only be as good as the standard of the younger players of today. If Beachside, are not prepared to find players for the U 19 competition , to fill senior spots in the next couple of years , what will they do ? Just poach good players from other clubs , who will then all play for one club at the detriment of all the other clubs. What a good competition that will then be .
It is about time some of these clubs pulled their fingers out and began working on youth development and grow their clubs, rather than just concentrating on the mainstream teams only and nothing more.
not a mind reader -
this issue has nought to do with the clubs. learn to read. and stop thinkign you are so important. your opinion will mean nothing when it comes to FFA and FFT policy.
Someone has hit a nerve.
$80,000 of tax payers money from the state government towards an A League probability, just typical of the government to waste money, money should of gone to FFT staff and directors for personal development and group therapy,im glad its not a company on the stock market investers would be broke. FFT should come clean with the football community, through the media & show that it's confidence towards all clubs and players, why isnt the ceo position been filled yet, lower divisions are incapable of requirements set by fft, the list can go on and on, can we see something positive soon, i hope so.
Walter
if I am correct you are no longer official press staff so why should Sean or FFT have to inform you of any meetings with FFA.
It is the continued rumour mongery from uneducated that cause half the issues in this state
Anonymous (7.21pm), you are incorrect, mate. I am still official media. I write about Tasmanian football in Melbourne's "Goal!Weekly" each week and also every month in the magazine "Soccer International". If you care to reveal yourself, I'll show you my media pass. Or, you can buy those publications and see for yourself. And remember, you don't have to read this blog, but just remember, where else can you find out quickly about Tasmanian football? Certainly not in the local press.
Remember, mate, you don't have to read this blog.
Anonymous (5.27pm), the answers were glib and lacked substance. There were points there that could have been expanded upon and that is what the reading public would expect. The answers were almost akin to simple 'yes' and 'no'.
c'mon Walter, what do you seriously expect the bloke to do. Give up internal information that is not for public disclosure, all so that a bunch of bloggers could get their giddies over?
the boy did well
Sounds like FFT staff contributing now !!!I didnt think they read this blog .
The general public maybe should not be privy yet to what is going on. However as Walter suggested ,one or two of the answers could have been expanded. It could have been suggested that he cant comment at this stage, however details may be lreleased at a later stage, maybe.Rather than the smug answers given at the time.
well you guys have interpreted them as smug, but I read them as 'no comment' and 'can't comment' etc...

Ok people who know shit all about soccer. the 2010 national futsal titles consisted of coachs such as ... brett pullen , greg downes , corey smith , paul woodham ,sergio pace and sandra chisolm to name a few.
i wouldnt class those people in the shit all about soccer category .
ok now the licences a word you cant even spell... corey holds a brazilian level 1 coaching licence which i would hold with more revere than the muppet licences given here to parents who can show up for a couple of sessions and walk away knowing nothing..
Now onto legit recognised competitions the more correct numbers of 4000 plus players in tasmania alone in a game played by some of the worlds great outdoor players ronaldo for one and many other top flight brazilians sounds more legit than back yard premier league to me.
Some choice ehhh all that or abbott and costello from fft.
id suggest you have a personal vendetta against players from futsal or corey or others on here because you are in denial and cant face the fact you are a nobody
Given FFT knew about the schedule visit by FFA. Yet as far as we are aware have not moved on the new CEO? Raises some questions does it not??
Walter ultimately its your blog if you chose to attempt an interview to keep us informed go for it mate and let the knockers wait for it in the mercury if they live that long waiting haha.
In anycase it would be chopped hacked and modified to the stage of being pointless if the mercury did run it.
Walter for blog king long live the king
anon there definatly bigger names than you are retard you assume im in tasmania and you havent got a clue mate you resort to being a big mouth loser when someone fires one back at you --- its a blessing you left before you were thrown out.also im not involved in futsal i just show credit were its due unlike you who has nothing to offer but slurs on anyone with more skill than yourself.
name dropping is not the task here its showing the facts you should learn some
idiottttttttt
If Beachside, Uni and Hobart United don't participate in Div1 because they don't have an U19 team that would make the Comp a farce (not to mention a crying shame). How about this for an option. Make the requirement an U18 team playing in the U18 Roster, with the likes of Clarence, Zebra's etc, but don't make the team a mandatory one. However if the winning Div 1 team at the end of the Season did not have a participating U18 team, they will be ineligible to progress into the Premier League the following Season, which means that the bottom PL team will be the lucky last and stay in for another year or have a playoff with the next eligible opponent from Div1. Just an idea to try and keep the Div1 as strong as possible and still in keeping with the reality that there will most likely always be a Div1 team that will struggle to get the numbers for 3 teams. I think it is important for Tas Football to have a vibrant and competitive Div1 Comp. There are many young footballers coming through the junior and youth ranks and to keep them in the game they need more options other than just PL Clubs. Food for thought
Anonymous 12.08 am ,rules are rules and they are there for a reason. If clubs cannot abide by the rules then , bye bye. There are too many clubs in Hobart anyway.Reducing numbers will strengthen competitions and the remaining clubs will be able to field U 19 sides as a result.
Anon 12:08
Your proposal won't make any difference.
Neither Beachside, Uni or Hob United could field an U18 team either.
Delusions of grandeur the lot of you. After the crap my son has been through over the last ten years with football in this state. He said he's going to play for FUN!!!! not caring what division he ends up in this year, get through grade 12 and leave this state behind.
Wow so many with great ideas.. ??!! At the end of the day as long as the kids are out playing something we are winning right?? It shouldn't be down to the size of your p#$%is re this debate. Viking have lots of things I believe need fixing general organising and professionalism to start Freddy will help with that. Their tournaments are crap 6 teams in u12 "nationals" 3 from tas?? and there Aus teams selections are drawn out of a hat or target the money(wealthy) parents. But leave the money driven side of things and the fact that they play on the wrong surface and wrong soze ground and Viking are at least providing an option for those who want to be there.. As far as coaches gee this state has so many great ones!! Michael Edwards is the second highest in the state and he can only coach girls???no disrespect to the girls... Anybody over time can pay for a certificate does not mean they can organise and motivate people 90% of sport is in the head not in a book.. Remember people no sheep stations in this state just people giving their own time in an attempt to do there best.. If you want better for your kids sorry take them to the mainland or to be honest Europe..
It sounds to me like the start of the real season is overdue, the discussion on this post is turning into a mass-debate.
Nothing against Corey but Viking's is in my experience a poorly organised money driven corporation that couldn't care less about the development of Tas Futsal.
You pay $10 per game plus $50 registration for about 10 matches. That would be fine however the standard of refereeing is even worse than outdoor, the refs play themselves, there aren't enough balls, participants stand around for half the game while the ball is fetched, though all players will be in attendance the referee will be late and then the games are cut short to make up the time. These occurrences don't happen once in a while but every week! Consequently we're playing in the FFT run league and have noticed a dramatic improvement already. Better refereeing, games start on time etc. I'm not sure if Corey has the autonomy to improve this but it's in their best interest to do so.
Though SOME of what you say about Vikings 'Anonymous' is correct you need to lighten up. You're an angry little boy eh, you need to be a bit more diplomatic and articulate in expressing your opinion before anyone will take you seriously. As for the standard of coaching those people do know a thing or two about futsal/football, maybe not in the grand scheme of things but it’s the best Tasmania have so it’s a valid comment.
The interview was pathetic at best, how anyone can claim otherwise is beyond me. IT WAS smug because he gave closed answers. He could have said to Walter "there really isn't anything I can disclose at this stage," and we wouldn't have known better.
Btw this is a fantastic blog Walter, keep up the good work.
who says that those clubs dont have u/19s?
moving onto more important things, the summer cup final, knights looking strong, but south to win late in the game, should be a cracker.
Anonymous 9.30 AM.
Your comments regarding the coaches is slightly derogatory isnt it ?
It is the best Tasmania has ?
These guys are doing this voluntarily for no payment or reward , unlike some other people. It is not their normal employment.
How would you know about their knowledge of the game anyway ?
It is about time some people stopped criticising people who are having a go regardless of how good or not so good they are.
Grow up.
Fromthesidelinelines8 and anon.
Basically a message complimenting Ken Morton and South Hobart on their dedication and hard work, and saying that their position in the final is reflective of this effort. Then the comment thanks Walter for providing the coverage he does.
Hope that helps
"Your comments regarding the coaches is slightly derogatory isnt it ?

Wow, you took that totally the wrong way. What about those comments are derogatory? 1) I said they are the best in Tasmania, 2) I was defending them 3)made the point that saying they are experienced coaches is a valid argument.
How would I know about their knowledge? ... i've played with Brett and Freddy for a few years and have great respect for them.
My name is Dion by the way and not Mckenna (about 30kg difference). My jibe is primarily aimed at Vikings and not Corey. I don't have the inside knowledge to comment on Corey's role.
Agree with anon that more important things are at hand and the g/k and s/h game will be entertaining -- favour the knights myself but final whistle will tell its own story.
My main dislike on here is people using the blog to slang off at individuals when most times they are wrong or dont know or appreciate time and effort given by these individuals to promote and support football in our state .
Does it matter if its futsal or outdoor when most play both and a fair amount of juniors end up playing outdoors anyway.
Think its better interstate ?? think again most clubs in tassie wouldnt like there juiors in nsw playing on grounds that never see water - most still use the outlawed square goalposts - refs are usually non existant at junior level unless the next older group to play do it as trainee refs and all at a fee of approx 150.00 for a 9 yr old to get on the park.
Believe me tassie aint that bad in retrospect when you look at the whole issue and not just how good or bad our top flight are.
perhaps we would do better to offer praise once every now and then on here and not bring it down even lower by predudicial comments or sour grape attitudes
if fft were not so useless at doing their job you would find that noone of this would matter, vikings and morton soccer school are just filling the many gaps
each to their own but the choice for kids is the likes of frediani, pace, pullen, corey, sandy etc or dale itchins and his band so what would you choose?
also there was mention of certificates, what certificates do the state coaches hold?
Dion , apologies.
I did miss the intended meaning of your comments.
Just goes to show how the written word can be misconstrued very easily indeed to mean the opposite.
stick- what do you mean wrong size grouns?
Fielding is coaching the Knights this weekend not Nick
I've heard that a beachside/dosa merger might take place or a beachside/olmypia
DOSA/Beachside isn't on because there's already talks between Beachside and Olympia. If there's no merge, there's going to be a few struggling teams this year with the pre-requisites of Div 1, ressies and U19's. Maybe a 3 team comp for div 1????
Only 1 group of players would seem to benifit from a Beach/Olympia merge. Olympia.
And only cause they would get Sandown. Why else?
Lots of youth at Olympia coming through in seniors and reserves so no room for Shep Robbo Dover Klausen in there. Perhaps a strong Olympia Div2 team
It would Bolster all Olympia sides and cut out any dead wood. They would have a strong 1sts, Reserves and Div 2 team. Beachside wouldn't mind as they were only going to be in Div 2 anyway. It would give their better players a chance to play Premier league.
mckenna pie eater
I mean ground sizes .. The hockey centre has 6 grounds 4 one size, two larger.. A basketball court is a standard size and surface
If Baech join Olympic then I think it will be a crying shame. Odds on several player from Beach walking as well, if half of the Beach team still wanted to play in Premier then they still could.. time will tell
ummmm - beachside pummelled olympia in preseason. I think Chris Hey would be licking his lips. A few exits would be on the cards at olympia
it could lead to Blimp FC
and shepp could be the team mascott - haha
Boit of a grim character on the field old sean, pretty good defender though
Unless their is a sweetner of unlimited dim sims on match days, I can't see beachside going for this merger.
stick- if you actually look at fifa regulations for futsal court sizes there are minimums and maximums and the two bigger courts are the size of international futsal courts while the other 4 look about the same as b-ball so i don't know what your on about
where's 8ball I miss him
Guys, settle down. For god sakes! Lets start discussing the game in the weekend!!! A cracker i think, my prediction Knights. Due to many reasons. Defence, underated. Holmes, Huigsloot, Grundy, and Tony D. This, will be South Hobarts downfall. They will not be able to score.
not to mention tatnell. he pulls out the big saves in the big games.
souths main issue is that they like to watch themselves play. this is why they dont score enough. too busy admiring themselves.
Tony D is out suspended
Benny will be in charge on bench in both finals with fishy calling shots is what i've heard from knights camp
Anonymous (4.33pm), eightball is still trying to come to terms with his performance on Saturday. He didn't do a thing in the game while he was on, so I think it was a humbling experience for him. He's probably taking stock of the situation now and wondering if he's qualified to comment.
I reckon the Knights may win on Saturday because the players will be free to play their game without having to wear, shall I say, the 'tactical straight-jackets' Kelly imposes upon them. They'll be able to improvise and make adjustments during the game.
South Hobart will play their usual passing style and dominate possession, but can they turn that into goals?
Intriguing it will be, Beercroft, fielding, sherman, ladic, white, downes. Look forward to this i do.
Weather and conditions i see having an influence they will.
Corey Smith to miss another penalty in a finals shootout.
South 5-4 on Penalties.
Tony D out, i suspect Knights will stick with just Holmes, Huigs and Grundy. The midfeild contest will be fantastic, Fielding, Bart, Ladic, White, Sherman. This is as good as it gets!
Kids and i will be there thats for sure, a big crowd im expecting. What will FFT charge?
Upton will bash up Sherman in the middle
Sherman will bash up Upton in the middle
Shermo will be BOG on Sat Night
I wont be there so ill miss the loud mouth in the crowd award again hahaha but all the best to both sides and whatever the outcome knights please enjoy the win giggle snigger.
OLD CHINESE SAYING
Confuscious say man who misses penalty not as big a fool as man who gives one but man who gives penalty may recieve a bigger one than he gives
Yeah where are ya dad!
where is eightball or should i say one touch jones
Walter I really enjoy reading your articles but I wont be wasting my time in the future with people posting on the blog as they do. This doesnt do the game any service at all.
anon 8:36pm, U don't have to read the comments on the blog u sook. You can just read the articles
I am starting to feel like an orphan, dad please come back!!!
Rumour is a deal was struck at sandown tonight between olympia and beachside. Beachside will play in div 1 under the name beachside Olympic and will have access to the surplus of players Olympia have including their juniors. In exchange Olympia will have access to sandown as a home ground and several beachside players of heys choosing, excluding those guys who don't want to play premier league any more.
South by lots - Knights promising by not there yet
no way
Anonymous (8.36pm), I'm glad you like the articles and I appreciate your feelings about some of the comments. As the next Anonymous said, though, you needn't read the comments. It's the same with on-line newspapers. One can read the articles without delving into the comments. I am reluctant to disable the comments facility because I want this also to be a serious forum for discussion about the local game. I mean, what other avenue is there for people who follow the local game to discuss issues? Please persevere and don't bother reading the comments.
walter i can understand anons dejecture over some of the stuff on here but one anon then another then another it gets too hard to know the good from the garbage --- If all used a name of some sort it would possibly stop half the garbage as i guess we all do a little muck racking at times when we see something we disagree with and dont particularly like.
I for one enjoy the news and clean gossip it provides and your articles and i guess im guilty for going over top at times like most but in general its a great medium to keep in touch
Perhaps Irate you could lead the push on this and post with your name. I fully agree some sort of committment from people to have the backbone to post comments under their own name would stop a lot of the rubbish and strengthen the value of the blog.
Mmm on the Beach Olympia alleged merege, certain didn't happen while I was there last night.
Chris
Beachside HSC
was probably a bit underdone, but there wasn't much happening up front all game for eagles. i was told just to get in there and rough it up a bit. i don't see the problem in ruffling souths feathers a little bit. they were already in the final so weren't expecting that to much. good on them. they were a top team and i was on holiday, so hopefully i can come back during the year and stick it to someone else. sorry guys no more eightball. it was fun while it lasted!!
cj
agree to an extent Walter about being selective in what you read on here but unfortunately the articles are first rate and informative the comments are usually not and more appropriate on a forum like facebook where individuals can have a closed discussion and give little regard in an engaging discussion. however this I thought was the point of the blog to encourage discussion about the local game. to any outsider it must be very amusing.
Ken's south to win 3-1, knights are good but have no discipline.
interested,if you read my post again you find that in essence we totally agree.the clubs have to grow and only the clubs themselves can archieve that.what fft has to do is create a pathway for youth to get as soon as possible into clubs and clubs to be willing to cater for them.how ever i am a firm believer that only teams that have earned their spot on the park should occupy the top leagues
Jerry , depending on which league the club participtes in, there are certain criteria. One of those is that in Div 1 and Premier League ,clubs must have U 19 teams. If a Div 1 club does not have an U19 team it would have to recruit very heavily and quickly, or set up a junior programm, 13,14 15 etc . All of a sudden ,a few years down the track, there is an U19 team. Not that hard really .It is called building a club and planning for the future. Maybe some clubs in Div 1 need to take a step back, forget promotion to the higher leagues, and put such measures in place, until there is a pathway for its own players.
interested i understand what you are saying.however this rule is not putting a single extra youthside on the park.dont forget those players in those div1 and 2 clubs pay their fees etc and as such should be entitled to archieve the standard they personally strive for with the team they play for.we must keep the players we have now and who are keeping football financially afloat happy.we certainly dont want to lose any players.developing the game means catering for the present players and the future ones. it is a matter of simple survival that the clubs must grow.it is also tragic to see that many kids lost to the sport once they get to highschool.that is the reason i say fft must get more involved together with the clubs with the people that that run schoolfootball. players and supporters themselves can do a lot to archieve growth by simply inviting friends and their friends kids to join their clubs
Jerry it is up to the clubs to get off their backsides and promote their own club firstly, which will result in promotion of the game.
At the club I am involved in , we offered basic coaching clinics during the school holidays and early in the new year,as soon as children return to school.Flyers were sent to numerous schools offering the clinics ,at no cost .
As a result of this excercise , our club has had so many junior players, we have found it difficult to accommodate all players , even though that was the original intention. It was just impossible finding sufficient coaches etc. However our club at present looks very healthy and the future appears very bright, purely due to the work undertaken a couple of years ago. Word of mouth will also assist hugely in the club's success , and ultimately the sport's success if all clubs were pro-active.
that is fantastic interested.would there be any chance of maybe getting 2 or 3 clubs to cooperate with you so everybody can be catered for?interested is that zebras you are involved with?
Why don't we adopt the style the Americans have for their youth when it comes to sports/schools. Each youth are automatically assigned a club to go to based upon their residential address. This will allow for the kids to be spread evenly amongst the clubs!
We have done the hard work to get where we are. It is up to all other clubs to do the same if they want progress.
For a small club Taroona have heaps of junior teams, and the result of this is that they have a lot of very good young players. Thay look after all of their players and this shows. I reakon they have the oldest player in the premier league (he looks a bit too old) but still probably still have the youngest senior team including the old bloke
Its great to see senior women and men's finals played back to back; well done for FFT beginning to understand the importance of women football. Let's just hope the league rounds are structured the same way.
Hopefully next season we will also see the end of the 3 tier structure, but FFT need to make the call now, not at the last minute.
The league structure, both in the North and South should be senior men/women with youth squads for reserves say U21's with 3 eligible older players U25.
Then assistance should be made to encourage clubs in the tops couple of flights to have U15's downwards.
Also serious consideration should be given to a state wide comp.
Hope the new FFT CEO with have enough smarts to make things happen and drag Tasmanian soccer out of the wilderness.
one sure way to kill the crowds.
It's great that women want to play the great game but the quality is worse than a decent U15 boys game
the u19s,ressies, seniors actually feed each other so its good to have them on same day.
What we should have is "blockbuster" sundays with triple hreader womens games, charge $6 an adult and watch the crowds stream in - standing room only
