Belanic to coach in Hobart over Easter

Former New Town Eagles goalkeeper, Zlatko Belanic, will be in Hobart over the Easter school holiday period to conduct coaching clinics for junior and senior goalkeepers and coaches.

The visit, beginning on 7 April, was organised by former Eagles star, Andrew Leszczynski, who was a team-mate of Belanic in the Eagles side of the early 1990s.

Belanic returned to Adelaide in 1997 after a successful Tasmanian career.

He ran his own goalkeeping school and was a writer for the “Australian Soccer Times” magazine.

Belanic also coached at Metro Stars, Metro United and Croydon Kings.

During an under-20 international challenge tournament in Adelaide in 2003, he was the liaison officer for the visiting Hajduk Split side from Croatia, which won the tournament and beat the Australian Institute of Sport, Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool along the way.

Belanic was the senior assistant coach and the goalkeeping coach for the South Australian Institute of Sport women’s team from 2002 to 2005.

Belanic holds the FFA and AFC ‘B’ coaching licence and it will be well worth attending his coaching sessions while he is in Hobart.

More information can be obtained from Andrew Leszczynski (0408 611 093) or the New Town Eagles club (www.newtowneagles.com).
