Burnie United were very good value for their win over the Glenorchy Knights today.
It matched the Knights all day, & always threatened with their swift counter attacks & long cross-field passes, which continually had the Glenorchy defense on the hop.
knights have not won since the pommys left just goes to show he wasnt that bad after all.
knights ordinary today and are going to drop down the ladder, gone are the glory days, this squad isnt half as good and with only 2 or 3 players left from the years they won the titles but who are over the hill anyway, over the last couple of years knights have scored so many goals but this team doesnt look dangerous and i think they would love to have a good striker wich they havent had since huigsloot retired but i have heard there could be a couple of ex knight players returning to the club, well thats the rumor anyway, zebras to rise 2nd half of season have a good team just not fully producing yet, ladic will help alot when he finally is fit and with players like crosswell and cairns in your team they are always going to be a threat
went and watched knights and burnie play today ,what a pleasure to watch a well drilled team that kept shape ,had full confidence in each other and fully deserved to win .went to support knights but went home satisfied with a burnie win .wouldnt mind watching them be competitive in our league .well done burnie
get a coach knights wheels are falling off after such a good start with so many young kids at your disposal .must be hard to plan for the future with underachievers and has beens keeping them out .dont miss the window knights and whinge about what could have been .feel some pain now
Burnie were pretty average, barely knocked the ball around and only looked dangerous when playing the long ball and this was helped by indecisiveness by the Knights backline. Result really could have gone either way.
With Fielding in the side Knights would have won, lacked his penetration and leadership.
Just about all of Knights attacks came from Clay, although his final ball lets him down at times. He could really dominate the league if his final ball was consistent and he played the easier options.
Tough gig for Nick Harrison although a great opportunity,Knights have been on a downward spiral since they beat Zebras about 5-6 weeks ago.
Knights always seem to have 3 or 4 players in the team who don't contribute a lot and are making up the numbers, this is where the improvement needs to come from and those players need to play effective roles in the team which allow the better 6-7 players to win the game for them.
Given Harrison can stake his claim for the senior position in 2011 it would be tough from his perspective to blood a lot of the youth and risk losing more matches. South Hobart will win the League by a long way regardless in my opinion it would be wise for Knights to appoint someone in the next month for this year and next whether it be Harrison or whoever else so there is a sense of direction rather than just seeing how things go and wasting the second half of the this season.
oh dear some uneducated comments again, the wheels have fallen off knights, you came from nothing at the start of last year to 3rd and now you are in 2nd this year and a lot of young blokes are coming through, it must be hard in your situation? haha
Please come up with something credible or don't talk at all.
nice strip burnie????
wouldn't matter if they were dressed in garbage bags would it? How does that old saying go...........um something about winners being grinners
Knights in massive trouble. Too many passengers again. Kelly will be missed - he was able to get the team going. It seemed like there was a lack of spirit in the team yesterday.
Without Fielding, Hugisloot, Anis, Hickey, Lakoseljac and Begovic they are a shadow of former team that dominated the mid 2000's.
South Hobart must be rubbing their hands together after the last serious contender for the league appears to have run their race.
lets have a look at knights across the back ,slow and old ,grundy yes still serviceable but his disposal will cost you 8 out of ten times .yesterday just woofed the ball so many times and the ball came straight back at the defence and this young side exploited those defiencies maybe knights need to blood some boys like all other clubs are instead of burying there heads in the sand .
Why would any of the knights boys leave to play for any of the lesser clubs at the moment unless they think they could get into souths ranks.
Googsy has put in some great performances this year, and whoever said he looses the ball 8/10 is full of it. Talisman of the club, works harder than anyone and deserves his spot. Who would you play ahead of him? Tony D and Googsy need to be there to keep the young ego's of Alex Holmes etc who think they are some sort of messiah when they've really just arrived. Know your role
someone said knights contenders for what? ummm maybe for div 2.
put your name to the comments, don't be gutless! googsy is class, we love him at knights and until people train as much and as hard, why should he stop? just because he snaps a few people does not mean he doesn't have quality. whoever said he just tonks the ball is full of it! he deserves his spot through his hard work and commitment. we need his leadership!
holmesy is probably the best centre back in the state. what's with all the slagging on here.
russ who the hell are you apart from an underacheiving ressies player with too much to say without the savvy to back it up ,leave it to people that have seen a bit mate.
to all the kngiths bashers out there unless your in one other club in this league, have a look at your own backyard, and where all the rest of your 3 teams in the other leagues are in the tables!!! As a club and as strong teams in these competitions you'd love to be were we are at the moment, pull your heads in a bit. dear oh dear.... Yeah we may have had a bit of trouble but it'll blow over, done it before and came back. not like the full on crisis of a few other clubs here reality check please, i'm guessing the bashing comments are from people of these clubs, hhhmmm. yeah.
What's the go with everybody suddenly bagging out Googs and saying he should retire. Anon 5.04pm, if you knew anything about him at all you would know that he is a great team man and anything but self indulgent. He would always put the clubs interests before his own. He plays because he is competitive, still enjoys the challenge and most importantly deserves his spot. Its very rare that he misses a training and is a good leader to the younger guys round the club. I'm sure he will know when its the right time to drop down to div 2 and not when you tell him to.
As for the other anonymous poster bagging out Russ, just because he hasn't played a lot of senior football doesn't mean you have to bag out his opinion. If you are such the expert you claim, you would actually realise that Alex Holmes is one of, if not the best, central defender in the league.
Sorry to disappoint many of you but the Knights will get over their current issues and will come out bigger and better for it.
knights have not been right since whites left plain and simple all these excuses but look at the facts since the whingin pom as left knights havent won and to be honest dont look like they will win again.
too much to say? sit down. considering the conversation is about the club i play for and also about my team mates, i've got every right to have my say, so what if i play ressies. I'll back up everything I say, you're the gutless one coming on here getting personal and trying to kick up a stink, all while not putting a name to your comments.
fish or peter captain and one of them leaving? hmmmm well for a start fish is the captain and he was out so holmesy was captain in his place (a very good choice i might add and the best central defender in the state), and on the issue of one leaving i can tell you that peter will be staying which narrows it to one player, so with that said surely fish is not a good choice of captain going forward with the young group so good bye..
holmes poor choice thinks he is the king of the state, if he gets off the blog talking himself up maybe one day
I think we are a bit old to be getting into other peoples accounts. Walter does a great job here, why ruin it by trying to create problems for people. I have deleted my 'russ' account and changed the password so good luck posting from that. Grow up a bit whoever it is!
Chalky
Why some people would think that Holmsey would want to talk himself up on the blog is beyond me. He is one of the best players going around and doesn't need to have his ego stroked unlike a lot of others. I think bagging him out may be a case of sour grapes as he has knocked back offers from other clubs to stay loyal to the Knights.
Also, noticed no social standings posted for the last 3 weeks. Maybe Roy is having a little break from posting on the blog???
Googs is a true knights champion and definately deserves his spot! who is going to step into the centre back spot if he retired? who else there is upto taking his spot? True gentleman who is passionate on the field and a great bloke off it! we need more guys like googs int his world!
the next centre back in line for knights played right back on saturday (Brodie Green). so clearly he isnt holding him back too much
just so you all know, the comments under russ are not actually written by him walter so can you please take them off.
there is no doubt will abbott would be if not the best but one of the best centre backs in the state. He would make any side with out any troubles. He is fast, great tackler, strong on the ball, strong in the air and has a very good footballing head on his shoulders. He has big things in front of him, its just a pity he is wasted playing in reserves but in saying this if he wants to make a fist out of football the TIS is the right place for him.
abbott for pm what a lot of rubbish .lets see the boy play against some qaulity players before u make that judgement .how much more valuable experience have boys like mcintyre ,barron, phillips ,garth, singo, all products of 08 u15 state would like to think these boys are bearing the brunt of big hard tackles instead of being inside a protective bubble which is TIS.NOTHING AGAINST WILL BUT NEEDS TO GET AWAY FROM THE KIDDIE CULTURE.
Because Will or any of the TIS boys wouldn't of experienced the 'brunt' of big hard tackles when they go to institute challenges and the like. The majority of the boys from the other institutes are just as big as the guys playing seniors down here, not to mention about ten times as skillful. I think you need to get out of your own 'bubble' Anon (5:35)
Anon (May 18, 2010 5:35 PM) a strong well timed tackle is one of the best parts of my game...'the brunt of big hard tackles' sounds dodgy/dirty! This is part of the reason our local game is so poor. We are allowing it to be a low standard.
Foe example, Googsy is a great bloke, but why is he allowed to lunge at the Burnie player (Mr video highlights @ 1:59) with his studs up! Isn't this at least a free kick? If he gets the leg, then it could be snapped in half, like some other videos that are on youtube.
att. the general. "a big hard tackle" does not sound "dodgy/dirty". Its part of the game. a well timed tackle can also be big and hard at the same time. My god it doesnt have to be pretty, fancy football all the time. watch the world cup, if you see an overly physical challenge because a man is playing for his TEAM (club/country) not just HIMSELF (tis), please dont huff and puff and turn it off, there will be fancy bits too....
Ok anon, i'm glad to see you've explained yourself. The big hard tackle certainly is part of the Hobart game. With any luck the therapy will help you escape from the 'bubble'!!
A friend recently directed me to the 'Laws of the Game' It says...
“Using excessive force” means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
• A player who uses excessive force must be sent off.
It goes on to say...
It is an offence to charge an opponent:
• in a careless manner
• in a reckless manner
• using excessive force
Let's watch the World Cup and observe how many players '...are bearing the brunt of big hard tackles'(your original comment).
...whatever that means??!!
