Southern trials were held today at the University Rugby Ground for the State under-13 side for next season.

Dozens of youngsters attended the trials, conducted by Southern Development Officer Anthony Alexander and Northern Development Officer Kurt Reynolds.

Tasmanian Institute of Sport men’s coach, Dean May, TIS women’s coach, Michael Edwards, and TIS men’s assistant coach, Scott Gallagher, were also in attendance to assist in the selection process.

The participants had been identified at regional carnivals during the season.

Trials in the North-West, at Ulverstone Showgrounds, and in the North, in Launceston, have already been held.

Forty players will soon be selected from the three trials held so far and those boys will attend further trials at Campbell Town.

A State-Under-13 squad will then be chosen to compete interstate next season.

A trial for referees was also held at the same venue today to select a young referee to accompany the State Under-13s to their interstate tournament.
