Two goals by Colin Wain and one by Kurt De Jong gave Beachside a 3-0 win over Northern Suburbs DOSA and top spot in Group A of the Division One section of the Summer Cup competition.

Beachside will play Metro in the semi-finals.

DOSA fell behind in the opening minute following a cross from the left and a side-footed finish by Wain, signed this season from South Hobart.

De Jong slotted home the second off the inside of a post to give Beachside a 2-0 lead at the break.

Simon Natoli, John Visentin and Richard Korn worked hard at the back for DOSA, but it was impossible to retrieve the situation given the experience of Beachside’s Colin Shepherd, Wain, Ben Davis, Bernhard Klasen, Luke Atkin and Nathan Robinson.

Derrick Parry was making his 100th appearance for DOSA, while Mark Wakefield was back in action after recovering from a serious knee injury and returning from New Town Eagles.

De Jong and Jason Szoka were everywhere and the DOSA midfielders were never able to take a breather.

Two minutes from the end, Wain struck his second and Beachside’s third.

Wain missed much of last season through illness and felt that he could not regain full fitness in time to compete at Premier League level this year and this prompted his move to Beachside, who will benefit enormously from his presence.

  • Beachside coach, Nathan Robinson, said:

“It was good. Three goals in 60 minutes and some positive forward play.

“It was our first clean sheet of the year, so there were some good positives.”

  • DOSA defender, Simon Natoli, said:

“We’ve got a lot of work to do.

“There are three good quality players that we’d like to have back, but we made the commitment to Division One knowing that this year would be tough.

“We’re going in with open eyes and we’re happy to give it a go and build on next year, hopefully, and just really work as hard as we can this year.

“I thought it [today’s result] was expected and it shows that we have got a lot of work to do, but the boys are willing to give it a go.

“We’re not going to lie down without a fight.”
