Northern Rangers and South Hobart are in Steve Hudson Cup final

Northern Rangers will face South Hobart in next Sunday's Steve Hudson Cup final at 3pm in Launceston after both won their semi-finals this afternoon.

Rangers and Taroona were 0-0 at half-time in their semi-final, but Rangers ran out 3-1 winners.

Mark Ambrose gave Rangers the lead with a header from Paul Bremner's cross, but Taroona equalised with a 20-metre bullet from Marcus Atkinson.

Ambrose restored Rangers' lead after a long run from the half-way line and a one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Derek Schipper added Rangers' third direct from a free-kick.

South Hobart beat the Tasmanian Institute of Sport 2-0, both goals coming in the first half.

Greg Downes and Shae Hickey were South Hobart's marksmen.

In other games, Prospect Knights beat Riverside Olympic 3-2, while Launceston City overcame Launceston United 3-1.

Taroona will play the TIS for third and fourth places.

Clarence United's reserves coach, Phil Evans, will hold a light training session this evening for his side in preparation for tomorrow's Reserve Premier League section final of the Summer Cup.

Clarence United are the favourites against Hobart Olympic in the final, which kicks off at KGV Park at 12.30pm.

This will be followed by the Premier League senior section final between Clarence United and Tilford Zebras at 2.30pm.

Zebras are the favourites, having been in the final for the past three years and having won last year, but the youthful and fast Clarence outfit could cause an upset if they are in the mood.

It is the first time Clarence have reached a Summer Cup final and coach Andrew Brown is adamant that the club will be celebrating afterwards, win or lose.

With the reserves and seniors in the final, it may well be a double celebration for the Easterm Shore outfit at Phoenix Park in the late afternoon and and early evening tomorrow.

Despite the result I thought the Taroona boys played really well today. First half could have seen them in the lead a few times and they held off Rangers with some really good football.

They got away from us in the second half and I thought Mark Ambrose was particularly good.

A good game all round though.

Taroon put in a good performance on the weekend and have conducted themselves both on and off the park in this comp. Have some good young kids and will have a good year down south. Taroon a were quiet good in first half, however Ranges tweaked up the intensity in the second and apart from one great crack by Taroona for an equaliser didnt have much left in the second stanza.

Rangers coaching staff more than happy with there performance winning without first team regulars TT, Hingston, Gaskin, Langerak, Nicholson and Prestidge. Should be a good game next week between the 2 undefeated sides in the comp.

Hope the Hobart sides have enjoyed the comp, good to have different sides and variety rather than playing the same old same old.
