South Hobart easily account for Clarence United

Photo: South Hobart defender Daniel Brown heads clear

Third-placed South Hobart produced a fine display of soccer in heavy conditions at South Hobart today to demolish fifth-placed Clarence United 6-0.

South, who led 4-0 at the interval, is now 6 points behind Forestry Tasmania Southern Premier League leaders Tilford Zebras and one adrift of second-placed Glenorchy Knights.

The home side repeatedly carved open the right flank of the visitors as fullback Liam Scott and midfielder Shae Hickey caused chaos down the left and South led 3-0 after just 14 minutes.

Striker Costas Kanakaris made it 1-0 in the 9th minute when he slid home the ball after Scott’s low cross from the left.

Scott provided Kanakaris with the second in the 11th minute, while Daniel Brown’s pass enabled David Abbott to score the third in the 14th minute as Clarence crumbled.

Scott added the fourth in the 42nd minute after a Clarence defender gifted him possession in a goalmouth scramble.

The visitors made some positional changes and improved in the second half but could not prevent Jonathon Ladic making it 5-0 in the 64th minute after a pass from Kanakaris, who had dispossessed Luke Cripps.

Defender David Cooper beat keeper Michael Moschogianis to a cross four minutes from the end to score an easy sixth.

South won the reserves 3-2 through goals by Rowen Franklin, Simon Burrett and an own-goal. Angus Flakemore and Juma Barabara replied for Clarence.

Clarence won the under-19s 8-1.

In Division One, third-placed Beachside easily beat fourth-placed Nelson Eastern Suburbs 7-1 away at North Warrane, Bernhard Klasen scoring twice and Colin Shepherd, Anthony Grzinic, David Lowe, Sam Ryan and Sebastian Milford once each.

Lewis Gibbs netted Nelson’s consolation goal.

Beachside won the reserves 9-0.

who would have thought it took a depleted, water soaked, miserable day and obviously depleted clarence side, to bring out the best in a south outfit most would have thought the previous statement was directed at them. congrats to south, their season is clearly back on track what a win guys; feel good in the fact that as soon as you break new ground, with a cracker game, an overachieving knights team, full of boys and second stringers, have man-handled a zebras team celebrating the fantastic news of the glorious brett pullen back. is he favourite for the vic tuting already??

Extremely poor coaching by Clarence's coach. Cannamela at centre back? Mcmahon and Huigsloot on the bench? Surely a change in coaching staff is needed, Clarence have a good squad, yet seem to be going no further under Brown.

South, with a quality striker, would be devastating. They controlled the game today. An excellent display in poor conditions.

its a wonder south can get out of the changeroom's when their heads are blocking the doorway!!! what? they don't have ego's? thats right, and why? because silly, they know they no good. lets see which team has a striker for them? i saw amadoo from knights play when he was about 11, and wow, do him a favour and get him away from this league. it was only a matter of time for this kid, jabba the hut, i mean eamon kelly better not stuff him up if he hasn't got him to the croat club already

Nice posts eightball.
I don't know where you get off bagging the Knights and Zebras especially after both those teams have beaten South quite a few times recently.
Lets hope for South's sake they can do a bit better against these teams next time as it would be a shit feeling to beat everyone else and always lose to the top 2 and win nothing.
Hopefully Uni dont get you again.
Same with Koroma,Kelly, and his second stringers(??) they have the runs on the board right now and
are full of confidence.
Koroma has been outstanding, he has stood up a couple times this season when Knights needed him most to get them over the line, well done, has a great future.
The last half hour certainly exposed Zebras weakness, even with Knights one player short.
A couple big scorelines against Clarence and Olympic doesn't mean that much other than 6 points.
Both these teams are struggling big time at the moment.
Will give you credit on the Worthington call, quite humorous.
Another Clarence post, and more criticism of Brown's coaching by Geoff, maybe you could write him a letter Geoff.
I don't know if Clarence do have a good squad, their players seem very one dimensional and play like robots.
They do seem to have big form slumps during the season, and will probably finish 4th or 5th live the last 3-4 years from memory.
Definetely a confidence team.
Who knows they might get dragged into the relegation battle.
Long way to go for all

Anyone else you want to insult eightball? Or you quite finished?

Agree Geoff - have been thinking the same thing for some time now - Clarence going nowhere with a talented squad.

nah, im done for the moment. just wait until someone else does something stupid

An overachieving knights team with second stringers. Wow, looks like everyone will get a shock when knights put the first team out then seeing as they are already sitting second......and the croat club call...good on you mate. Still sitting second

oh and this isn't a grilling, but how was david (liam scott) carney on the weekend?? i din't get the chance to see the game, i was at my grannies, she was making a delicious bowl of bolognase. yum-

yes i do eat and even though i'm not black i should play for barca for the time being coz i'm the spitting image of samuel eto'o, you know, physically!!

ease up big fella, well knights have to now, even though they look good at the moment, coz they have the worst depth out of any premier league team. look out for the south poachers at your next game.

big news- mr invisible, glyn jenkins, he's back in a big way, straight to clarence, he just bought one of his own houses in howrah, and looking to set up camp there for a while, as senior coach, browny put in his resignation after being under the buckle for tool ong according to the old phoenix faithful

Liam's Celebration?

iw said...

Glyn Jenkins making his long awaited return to football, surely rumours. Good news for everyone i reckon, oh except for clarence lol

i didn't say it was good news, just big news

by the way, i've been thinking, and i'm not going back on anything i have said but. . hold your breathe, corey has been on my mind, and even though i do believe he gets everything he deserves, i forgot how he was out of the game for two years with a knee reco, and for any body to overcome that and play at a standard, perhaps someone like corey that has set for the league, is a fair effort. WELL DONE COREY. by the way, my nan's spag bowl is more italian than 3/4's of the zebra team, and definantly has better skills than most of them. how much better was zebras when ladic and corey were there playing under the influence of the spag...

eightball your comments are spot on, im sure you look alot like samual eto'o where it counts haha, i have heard there are 8 teams currently trying to get a hold of your nans bolognase recipe, it sounds delicious, to be fair though im sure ladic is off the bolognase and onto the hair gell with the pretty boys at south

eightball, you are a blowout. love it

Hey Geoff

you have lots of comments on Clarence and only crap for the coaching. Any baggage there mate?

M.J said...

yellowgemi11 - "eightball i am sure you look like Samuel Eto'o where it counts" Mate if you want to pick up do it in your own time. Talk about football. Geoff are you sure about getting rid of Browny? Just out of curiosity.....what available coach out there would clarence be able to get to take them further? I think they are a mid table side, they dont have the starting line ups to match that of South, Zebras and Knights. Honnestly how much further do you expect them to go? Laka Cup winners? Premiers? Asian Champions league winners? World club champs?

eightball said...

M.J- surely not as great as michael jordan, i mean what would you be doing on a football forum?? any way, i know a few of you think i have been hanging around fletcher tracy too much but hear me out- in reference to south looking for some strikers, source inside their camp says they already have two players ready to go, this source not only happens to play for them, but they may have to find a replacement for him too, as he is moving over to melbourne in the coming weeks. well you guessed it, one is danny white, who has been unable to cut it over in the VPL, having been released by green gully, he was looking to comeback to tassie anyway. and the second- and i thought he snapped his achilles, yes a blog can only be this long for a man of this stature- danny prestige. he has been training at south all last week, and seems ready to take on the rest of the season after giving it serious thought. C'MON

and chalky23- credits where its due cobber- watched you in the 2's fri night. maybe with corey out of the squad indefinantly, you could be ready to take the next step, just keep putting in the hard yard. with such an inform- albeit in-experienced squad, anybody looking to put their body on the line for their team. I know zebras are looking for players with a pair!!!

eightball are you one Matthew Russell?

what about darren anderton to coach metro next year .rumour

eightball said...

rumour- precisely. if anyone wants to coach though, try clarence- they have 3 semi-serious coaches with vast experience between them, and they couldn't save money in a free fee account let alone a clarence side with all this supposed talent they have. yes bad metaphor, but just trying to get the message across. and whats wrong darren chaffey, c'mon

The Phoenix said...

Hm this clarence side 8ball also beat both the top two teams convincingly earlier in the season , in fact spanked knights .Oh how things change !!!!Dont know were you get three coach's from Ball only two over there giving the orders !!!!

i could care less where phoenix finish so long as its not on top. yes i do agree though all the coaches should be held accountable, obviously though, considering they're all on the payroll. FYI, just because its a blog, doesn't mean you have to undermine yourself by incorrectly spelling your words. just a thought.

Eightball, Daniel White has transferred from Green Gully to Whittlesea Zebras and played for his new club on Saturday. I don't think he'll be back here any time soon.

any news walter of john ladic monving over there aswell? will he make the end of the season there?

Bit harsh to be having a crack at Clarences Coaches only. It seems there aren't many teams with a GREAT won/loss ratio......

Who is D.Prestage?

Krauser said...

not to be nit picky but clarence and phoenix are now two different clubs ? lol
are knights now first ?

The Phoenix said...

Krauser, Clarence and phoenix are the same club these two clubs amalgamated in 1984 to at the time be called PCL ( Phoenix clarence lauderdale).Since then the club has become Clarence united. The NEW club Phoenix rovers is not even 1 year old and is not a part of the original, but is now starting to create their own identity and history.Funny how they wear the same strip as some of the clarence youth teams though !!!
