Steve Darby, the former White Eagles coach who is now assistant coach of the Thailand national team, has sent a genuine Poland short to his former captain at White Eagles, Mark Leszczynski.
I delivered the shirt and match programme to Mark ‘Spider’ Leszczynski today and he was chuffed at Darby’s gesture.
Spider was one of the mainstays of that great Eagles team of the middle-80s to early 90s and was almost unbeatable at sweeper.
Thailand played Poland in a four-team tournament in Bangkok recently and Darby managed to get the number 5 shirt from one of the Polish players after the match.
Poland beat Thailand 3-1.
The other teams in the tournament were Denmark and Singapore.

lets not forget that when white eagles got relegated in 84 or 85, spider among others jumped ship and then came back after eagles won promotion again. great gesture otherwise. i'm not denying spider's brilliance, just the mainstay comment walter.
furthermore Walter, that team photo from the matchday programme is misleading - That is the full national team.
See the squad from the match
Polska: Przyrowski – Mierzejewski, Jodłowiec, Glik (78. Piotr Brożek), Sadlok – Peszko, Bandrowski, Iwański (83. Gol), Rybus (89. Brzyski) – Małecki (70. Robak), R. Lewandowski (89. Nowak)
Hey mr archive, walter stated from the middle of the eighties which is 1985 onwards think spider played for uni in 84.So i suggest you get your facts right if you call yourself mr archive and go around character assasinating people.Walter seriously why did you waste your time and spiders when the first 2 posts are nothing short of having pot shots at the people involved . By the way mr archive who did you play for in 1984?oh you were probably still in nappies
Top work trigger. I hope to see you more during the season. Perhaps an entry in the Miss Newtown Eagles 2010 could add another trophy to the cabinet.
Mr archive could probably tell us how many trophies you have earned and accumulated over the years.
Cheers.
haha wow, i'm not sure how many other tasmanian players have received a national strip before, but i'd say spider would just about be one of a very select couple. i think your talking about '83 archive, but as an eagles fan, i'd say choose your words, spider has given a fair amount of his time over the past 2 decades and the red and white army is one you would be smart to mess with
not smart
