Glenorchy Knights may be stronger this season

Glenorchy Knights have retained all their players from last season and have signed a couple of new ones for the 2010 campaign

Danny White, from Whittlesea Zebras, has signed, as has Jacob Huigsloot from Clarence United.

White joined South Hobart after arriving in late 2008 and, after playing for Tasmania, moved to Victoria, where he played for Green Gully and Whittlesea Zebras in 2009 before returning to Tasmania at the end of the season.

The striker will be a valuable acquisition for the Knights as they strive for the league title.

Defender Tony Dzelalija is in training and it looks as if he will make a return to the senior side after a short retirement.

Goalkeeper Alex Tatnell has also signed for the Knights.

Keeper Ben Peter broke a finger two weeks ago and will have more surgery on the injury next week.

Tom Sherman will probably go to Europe with his brother, James, at the end of March and is likely to miss the 2010 season.

Janko Begovic has also been training but is unlikely to commit to the seniors as he has family commitments this season.

Mynonge Kamba has been in training and it looks as if he will be pushing for a senior berth again.

“We’ve had good numbers at training and things are going well,” said Knights coach, Eamonn Kelly.

“We’ve had 35 to 38 most sessions, so everything is going well at this point in time.”

Practice match Glenorchy Knights VS Tilford Zebras at Prince of Wales Bay Tuesday 9th Feb. U/19s game and Premier League game starting at 6:30. should be an interesting pre season hit out.

Looks like Knights and South Hobart will both miss out on Tom Sherman's services this year although Knights have done well to get Danny White on board. I'd expect lots of goals from the Knights in 2010.

gag, it looks like the only one who thinks you are wrong is the coach himself. Kelly doesnt even think they will finish top 4. So by that comment, they wont kick many. Not very confident in his team is he. Then again it is Kelly we are talking about. I would say looking at his line up so far, I will say Knights top 2. Watch this space.

a big loss for the Knights reserves with Nick 'The Mountain' Harrison moving to Melbourne.

He was in some stellar form at the end of last year.

Didnt Nick Harrison play in a practice match for Olympia the other day against Metro?

Knights will be in top four without a doubt. Daniel White is over rated but may take a little pressure of Amadu if they play together up front.

Huiglsoot is a very good pick up, clearly the best player at Clarence for the last two seasons.

One would expect the top four to remain the same this year, only for a few slight differences. Knights will push for top spot with South.

Whites a great pickup, extrememly good signing for the Knights. Not to sure Huigsloot was the best at clarence for the past two seasons, certainly was one of their stronger players though.

Anon 1.02pm lol Jake Huigsloot is no nuff nuff but surely yer statement about him being CU's best player over past 2 seasons is taking the piss? Or are you his girlfriend?

have to agree with most that the top 4 seems a no brainer. same as last season but maybe in different order...
unless olympic have recruited well cant see them challenging.
king and eagles not enough talent to push top 4 and roona aiming for survival!

Surely the Huigsloot remark is a joke. Was dropped mid-season through poor form. Would have struggled to make top ten in the Best and Fairest I reckon.

Anon 12.52 No dude, I mean't what I said.

I know T Sherman played for GKs last year and was training a bit with South this year - therefore neither club will have his services as according to Walter's report he will be in Europe and will miss 2010.

Dont gag the gag!

Tom Sherman wont be a huge loss, he was struggling to make the first 11 last year for Knights. Is his brother James down here too? Heard he was. Certainly a huge call to claim Jake Huig was Clarences best. Was a solid player from a young age for them, no more no less. Knights have done well to pick him up now, as he'll get better with age like his Uncle.

Picks for Summer Cup? My moneys on South. They've had a solid pre season.

white has been playing midfield apparently in melbourne so he may not play up front. amadu i would say could even struggle to start if our mate corey is played up front and stays on the park. remember the stats last year when amadu played without his maligned mentor. watch for jade clay to win the vic tuting this year.

huigsloot is a solid fringe senior player who will improve in time but add to the depth at knights. great work rate. better player than many of the clarence back 4 but not their best in last 2 yrs.

huigsloot will do well this year at knights

Jacob Huigsloot is one of the worst players in the premier leagueH He was dropped last season, and the better huigsloot (Luke) replaced him and contributed largely to clarence's late season success. once Huigsloot was out of the side clarence started to win, Knights are wasting their time with him, a potential top 2 finish will be a struggle to make the 4 with Jacob huigsloot in their starting 11
