Stalemate between Knights and Zebras

Glenorchy Knights and Tilford Zebras drew 0-0 in a pre-season friendly at Prince of Wales Bay this evening.

The closest both sides came to scoring was when they hit the woodwork.

Matthew Hall struck the frame of the goal with a header for Zebras, while Corey Smith hit the post for the Knights.

Troy Kaden and Jason Voss shared the goalkeeping duties for Zebras, each playing one half.

Ben Crosswell played for Zebras, as did Henry Fagg, who has been working in Launceston for the past month.

Tony Dzelalija, Anthony Grundy and Alex Holmes were in defence for the Knights, who had Brad Grainger in goal for the entire match.

Alex Tatnell has an ankle injury but should be fit for the weekend.

Daniel White also played for the Knights and one of his defensive duties appeared to be to guard one of the posts at defensive corners, despite his short stature.

In the under-19 curtain-raiser, Knights beat Zebras 3-1.

The knights defence looks a bit slow from the names your mentioned. How old is Grundy now, and how long will he keep playing, he seems to have been around for a long time.

Anonymous said...

Anon, I played against grundy for years. To answer your question, I think he has been playing for 125,000 years...

looked like zebras failed in their attempt to keep smith of the ground with their overzealous "tackling".

i still remember the day when googsy snapped TT's leg into the next week right through the ball. classic grundy. he might not be as quick now, but the experience and intimidation he shows is invaluable, and i'm sure the young blokes don't mind him there

Googsy is class. One of the best people to play alongside for many, many reasons. Can knock a ball, can break a leg ;)

haha eightball yeah he copped a battering and just kept going didn't look over the hill to me in that game and he probably had the best 3 chances of the game, not a bad result without jade clay

Quote "Daniel White also played for the Knights and one of his defensive duties appeared to be to guard one of the posts at defensive corners, despite his short stature", Please tell me this is a joke walter if this is the best news from the game? you don't have your tall players marking a post as they are picking up the big guys in the box? If I was to mention White I would be mentioning the time he flicked it over two zebras and ran around them making them look like right idiots and then strolling through and hitting a shot from 20 yards after being fouled but i guess him standing on the post was an important part of the game?

Hahaha I'm pretty sure Walter was having a joke.

Knights and Zebras both played well in patches on a small ground and I'm pretty confident these 2 teams will be in the top 4 this season.

No Fishy for Knights aswell but Smithers and White played quiet well together in the middle with Shermo having some nice touches in there also.

Anonymous 10.37am, don't take everything so seriously, mate! Ha! Ha! Besides, I only saw the last 20 minutes so couldn't give a comprehensive report. The result was the most important thing.

Anonymous said...

sherman held the middle together with white and smith playing really well off him

haha walter! i thought it had to be a joke and it certainly made me check the article over twice, tony d played well for knights and just on mention of the pace at the back for knights, the centre of defense for zebras are no usain bolt clones either with big hopes out running them and amadu making them look like they were all running on treadmills

knights 19's played with six players under the age of 14 in that game so some impressive youth at the club

The knights defence isnt as slow as everybody is saying. Huigi isnt slow and when Holmes is fully fit there are very few people that could out run him. very quick for a man of his stature!

daniel white is just ONE OF THE MANY to not make it in victoria and then just come back here. stop hyping him up he is rubbish- got canned from 2 teams up there including 1 who got relegated. there are better players in the state than him, walter u don't need to write his name in every article to get people interested.

Ryan Smith gave Corey some good tackles from behind last night.

Smithers always ads some entertainment value to the game.

Anonymous said...

was ryan smith late deliberately or was smithers just too quick?

danny white was offered a contract again at whittlesea and a few other clubs but returned as his family is here including his two kids? the guy played for oldham as an apprentice so i am sure he could get a run in melbourne as lets get serious the vpl is not that great

eightball said...

sorry walter was i too blunt???

however there were a few notable absentees who have been training with knights since november, including jackson marsh, who has had an inclub ban for disciplinary reasons, although it is not known if it has anything to do with terry or stokes

eightball said...

actually anon 12.36pm, your wrong he got released after they realised he was balls. he was told he could move his young family up there and find him a house. i guess he wanted to have a stroll down here instead of testing himself in vic

Anonymous said...

eightball are you on drugs? he moved from england to be with his partners family in new norfolk? he then went to melbourne and realized that he wasn't with his family anymore there than in england so moved back to tassie?

wouldn't he try his luck back in england if he was trying to push himself and not at whittlesea zebras where some very average players get runs

eightball said...

you seem to be close to white. just stating the facts thats what makes my posts so true. Thats right anon vpl is not that great seeing a club team who finished mid-table and had not trained for 6weeks came down and beat our state squad. shoes the strength of our league- danny white would'nt play for a pub team in england.

is henry fagg the most over rated player in tasmania? he makes rep. teams although he is not as good as players like huigsloot and marsh as a full back?

Anonymous said...

Isn't Liam 'God' Scott the best Full Back in the state?

ginger said...

now i know you've all gone mad.
Fagg has won 2 bnf's at zebras in last 3 years in a quality side. he won it in the state premiership side of 2007 over high quality local players of recent times such as falzon, pullen, mainella, self, brazendale, etc.
His ability speaks for itself. watch him week in week out and you'll see. Marsh and huigsloot are even regular senior players yet.
next we'll be hearing fish is rubbish or some such nonsense.

long johnson said...

fish is rubbish lol

eightball said...

don't even get me started on scott. i know your all piss taking. fagg is handy, but because he is a nice kid people bestow all these nice things on him. defenders shouldn't be afraid to get their gear dirty, and little henry is just a tad to ponce.

one who ain't poncey, and plenty of size jono ladicis bringing his big guns to claremont where he is opening a new gym with his brother, so maybe metro could use his services if he can't find a home at south as predicted. the gym is called brothers with guns.

the realist said...

talking of liam, why is he still here? Wasnt he goin be the next Dom Longo? Maybe his publicists better tone it down as he looks like being just another wannabe like every other TIS athelete who aims to turn professional. Wake up and smell them roses boyos!

Anonymous said...

Nah he was the next David Carney

Anonymous said...

HAHA Tassie people make me laugh.

Dani White is class, nothing more to be said, how many players are there in the southern premier league, wait, playing in tasmania at the moment who have played in england?? who have had a contract in england?
Henry Fagg is another quality player who, when put in rep teams stands out as the players around him are better, as shown in the youth league games.
Its good to see people know there stuff in tasmania. No wonder this state will never get anywhere cause' your all too interested in bagging the shit out of quailty players. This state is all too happy to remain "amature" instead of being "semi-pro" like the rest of Australia. Maybe then players like Fagg, Pitchford, Scott, Walsh have a chance of going somewhere. The rest of Australia takes the piss out of tassie.
As for scott, he would have lead the assists for the comp last year, and the game i saw him play on the weekend, looks in good touch. However, his physical strength is still lacking. Hit the gym son.

P.s my tips for this weekend:
Olympia 2 - 1 Eagles
Zebras 0 - 0 South (to win on pen)
Knights 7 - 0 Taroona
Clarence 1 - 2 Kingo

maybe scott can join ladic's gym in claremont lol!

chalky 23 they only ever slag off the good players as nobody cares about the others, it is tall poppy syndrome or otherwise known as "I want to be like them but instead I am a 2nd rate 3rd's player watching from the stand living my dream through my kids who are only reserve players at best and it upsets me that they will never be like danny white, scotty, smithers, henry, shermo and the big adebayor type character at knights named oliver"

Anonymous said...

"brothers with guns" would be a sick name for a gym!!!

Anonymous said...

apparently big oliver is pretty well 'equipped' for this season, pardon the pun!

Henry Fagg is a quality player. Versatile enough to play in variety of positions both at club and state level.

I do think that Big Frank made a lot of the Juve defenders look pretty good though.

It's a pity that we can't focus on the positives when we speak about these players. I couldn't think of a better role model in a club than Fagg.

I'm guessing the detractors are frustrated current / former players that never played to the level that Fagg and co have.

Think a few Zebras people are having a sooky, you cant take these comments serious.

i totally agree toyota1 its not hard to create a username to post a comment .on the knights does anybody think coach kelly looks interested?.some good young boys coming through there also some young ones from other clubs trying to make their way at a new club.

lot of blah blah blah

Unknown said...

Alot of ctitisism being dished out guys. Fagg is quality, end of story.

Also Walter, im pretty sure Knights played four at the back.

Walter said...

James, you're right. I didn't mean to imply that they had only three at the back. Huigsloot was the fourth, I think. It wasn't meant to be a detailed report as I only saw the last 20 minutes of the match.

So who will be keeping in the sticks for the zebras seniors squad, Kaden or Voss???

Amazed said...

One would hope Kaden over Voss for Zebras.

But if Tatnell's ankle is dodgy and Peter's finger needs surgery - who will keep for Knights?

Anonymous said...

tom sherman in the sticks
