Pullen signs on the dotted line to coach Beachside

Brett Pullen signed as coach of Beachside last night.

He will take over the coaching reins from Nathan Robinson, who coached the club for the past two seasons.

Pullen joined Beachside as a player this year and helped the club to the Division One title and promotion to next year’s Premier League competition.

He joined Beachside from Forestry Tasmania Southern Premier League outfit Tilford Zebras.

A three-time winner of the Vic Tuting Silver Medal as southern Tasmania’s best player, Pullen once played in the National Soccer League for West Adelaide Hellas before returning to Tasmania and joining Caledonians.

“I have signed a three-year contract with Beachside,” Pullen said today.

“My plan is to put together a coaching ‘team’, including current senior players, and some new introductions. The coaching team will be responsible for the seniors and reserves and will have assistants that will allow trainings to be broken down and specific areas targeted for work, if required.

“I am after any player from any club that believes they might not have been given the opportunity to express themselves on the field or the opportunity to play at the level they should and who is willing to take up the challenge in a newly structured Southern Premier League club.

“The club is also looking for people interested in being part of a newly formed junior and youth program, who are excited about starting something new and building it from the ground up, and people who are passionate about football but also understand the importance of fun.

“At the end of the day, my move is in no reason because of the club I have been associated with for numerous years, namely Tilford Zebras. I have taken on this appointment for the chance to sink or swim in the world of coaching and the chance to hopefully pass on what I have been able to pick up over the last 23 years of senior football on the Mainland and in this State.

“I hope to help a new club like Beachside to survive in the Southern Premier League and grow into a stronger club that can one day compete with the bigger clubs.

“Sandy Bay is a wonderful location for football and families, and the Sandown surface is great, except when full of water and mud, and the club has an open mind about moving forward.

“Northern Rangers showed what a new club can achieve in a short period of time in this State and I truly believe that, with the right people behind it, Beachside can achieve these sorts of things.”

Dare I suggest that many of South Hobart Reserves and some of the Taroona lads will be knocking on Brett's door in the next month or so.

Congrats BP, welcome to the tropicana cauldron as senior coach.

Beachside to perform very nicely next year, Taroona will be far to strong for Metro and Uni and will come straight back up.

They seem to do all lot of talking at taroona for a club that came straight back down they didnt learn from2007 when they stay up when the then coach top up there sqaud .

With players like atkinson ,billy g
and mike mckenna anyway seems like there already over the line for div 1 next year according to them they old early crow can bite you sometimes.

also heard that, as well as that a few knights players will be on their way depending on who the new coach is going to be.

Sandown might be great but it seems too small for premier league. Where will beach play home games

Anonymous said...

Just as upton park is too small for EPL.

Sandown is the best venue for football in this state. The pitch is prefect in dimension.

Will be the most anticipated destination in Tasmanian football this coming season.

"Will be the most anticipated destination in Tasmanian football this coming season."

Nice attempt at making it sound like that's an achievement. Almost had me.

sandown is a terrible service

anyone that says sandown is good is stupid, and anyone who leaves knights for beachside is worse again

Anonymous said...

How old are Rangers? Been around since I have known, though im only 22! whats a short time?

Anonymous said...

Why would they be stupid for leaving? In some circumstances, a change can be very good for a player. Especially, people who are pushing for a spot in the premier league and want an opportunity to prove themselves, which may be limited at their current club.

Billy G and McKenna at Taroona? Someone's been out of the loop for a while... anon 10:16, you ain't making sense.

Have heard on the "grape-vine" that Beachside and Taroona are joining "forces"?? Instant Youth program and ground/fac for B/S?? Can anyone confirm this?

Northern Rangers formed in 1999 I believe.

Correct Northern Rangers were formed in 1999

It's quite simple. If you don't like Sandown Park, then just let your club know that you wont be available to play there. You won't be missed.

a merge between taroona and beachside would seem unlikely given that beachside have already named a coach. this surely would be the responsibility of a new, taroona/beachside combined committee

Anon 7.58 AM. Are you on something of just woken up?

Anonymous said...

what anon September 17, 2010 7:58 AM is saying is that so many clubs in the SPL dont have their own grounds, have limited facilities, so don't take the higher ground, because other than South Hobart, there is none to be taken.

Does any Club "öwn" a home ground?

Anonymous said...

Rumour says that Olympia have now secured a home ground. From what I have heard on the grape vine they may have the best surface in Tasmania.

ok can anypne tell us all who owns thier own ground???? anyone in southern Tas football clubs.. tell us all...........

KGV is in the middle of Glenorchy, anon 7.58. This should be Knights' home ground and noone elses! Moron

Anonymous said...

KGV is knights' home ground. the only reason zebras r there is becasue friends school kicked them out of bell street a few years ago. and i am pretty sure no1 owns there own ground all council owned except for the greeks. they just well mamacas jsut purchesed one over the river. the old hockey centre on the highway..

18/9 3.25PM - I wouldn't be calling anyone a moron after a moronic statement like that. Are you actually suggesting that because Knights has Glenorchy as part of its name it has sole rights to a ground in Glenorchy??

Anonymous said...

The only glenorchy pitch Knights deserve is the showgrounds.
