Seongnam Ilhwa qualified for the semi-finals of the Asian Champions League when they survived a fierce onslaught by fellow South Koreans Suwon Bluewings to win their quarterfinal tie 4-3 on aggregate.
Bluewings, needing to win 3-0 at home at Big Bird Stadium in Suwon, could manage only a 2-0 victory.
Yeom Ku-Hin gave the home side the lead in the 32nd minute with a superb left-footed free-kick from 25 metres.
When Lee Sang-Ho made it 2-0 in the 59th minute, it was game on.
Bluewings’ Brazilian second-half substitute Marcio played well and he had a hand in the second goal. He held off an opponent and flicked the ball to Lee Sang-Ho, whose side-footed shot went through the legs of defender Sasa Ognenovksi and crept inside the far left-hand post.
Try as they might, the home side could not get the third goal that they needed and it was the visitors, Seongnam Ilhwa, who will play in the semi-finals.
