Socceroos draw 0-0 with Switzerland in Osieck's first game in charge

Australia drew 0-0 with Switzerland in new coach Holger Osieck’s first match in charge.

The international friendly was played before a crowd of 14,660 at the picturesque AFG Arena in St Gallen in Switzerland.

Mark Schwarzer made three brilliant saves to keep Australia in the contest.

Australia also missed some excellent chances through Scott McDonald and Lucas Neill in the first half. For the second match in a row, Neill missed a sitter from inside the 6-yard box.

Switzerland dominated the second half but missed a penalty, conceded by Neill, when captain Alexander Frei put his spot-kick high and wide. Frei has scored 40 goals for Switzerland.

Australia’s only chance in the second half came from a header by Dario Vidisic, which flew just wide.

The Socceroos meet Poland on Wednesday morning [Australian Eastern Standard Time].
