Perth Glory 4-2 Adelaide United

Perth Glory moved off the foot of the A-League ladder with a 4-2 home win against second-placed Adelaide United at NIB Stadium last night.
Adelaide lost Paul Reid after only 10 minutes when he clashed heads with team-mate Iain Fyfe, and they had central defender Robbie Cornthwaite sent off in the 75th minute when he brought down Mile Sterjovski and conceded a penalty. Sterjvovski was lucky to still be on the field at that stage as he had earlier kicked out at an opponent with play stopped for a free-kick, but Mr Beath took no action.
Jamie Coyne put Glory ahead in the 6th minute when he nodded home a corner from the left by Sterjovski.
The Glory could have scored twice more in the following minutes, but Sterjovski’s excellent shot from wide on the right just cleared the far top corner of the net and Adriano Pellegrino headed Steven McGarry’s free-kick just wide of the far post.
Joe Keenan, who had replaced Reid, netted the equaliser in the 22nd minute. He put Iain Ramsay away on the left and, when Tando Velaphi could only punch his cross out, it was Keenan who scored with a deft volley with the inside of his left foot.
Sterjovski restored Glory’s lead 10 minutes before the interval when he broke free on the left and rounded Eugene Galekovic before slotting the ball home, despite a desperate attempt at a goal-line clearance by Cassio.
Sergio Van Dijk equalised for a second time for Adelaide in the 51st minute. It was his 10th goal of the season and he and Robbie Kruse of Melbourne Victory are the A-League’s leading marksmen.
But, two goals by Robbie Fowler then ensured the Glory of an important win and a move off the bottom of the table.
In the 67th minute, Pellegrino’s precise pass down the inside-left channel put Fowler into the box and his left-foot shot flew across Galekovic and inside the far post to make it 3-2 for the home side.
Ramsay missed an open goal for Adelaide in the 74th minute when Velaphi needlessly raced out from his goal and was rounded by the Adelaide winger, but he shot wide.
A minute later, Cornthwaite brought down Sterjovski after Fowler had played his team-mate into the box. Fowler easily converted his spot-kick for his 9th goal of the season and gave the Glory a 4-2 lead.
Velaphi produced an excellent save from Travis Dodd in the 78th minute, but against 10 opponents, Perth had few problems in holding out for all three points.
