Freeman and Dale the combo again at Kingborough Lions

Geoff Freeman will continue as coach of Kingborough Lions United in 2011 and Tim Dale will again be his assistant.

It will be the second year this duo has been operating together at the Lions.

“We are looking forward to building on the progress made last season,” said Freeman.

“Whilst out final league position was disappointing, we were a young team and need to find a greater consistency in our performance.

“We have a number of young players who need to take the next step and cement themselves as regular senior players.”

Mick Trotter will coach the Kingborough reserves next season after being in charge of the club’s under-19s for the past two seasons.

Phil Cooper will take over the under-19s after being the assistant coach last season.

Kingborough’s pre-season training begins tomorrow evening and will continue each Tuesday and Thursday until the 16th December.

The focus will be on technique and all players looking to be involved with Premier and Reserves and U19s for the 2011 season should attend.

Training is at Lightwood Park, ground 3 (use Gormley Park entrance off Summerleas Road and continue driving past the Gormley ground for easiest access).

Any further contact info can be obtained from the club website http://www.klusc.org.au/club/contacts.htm

Kingborough are also interested in applications for all women’s teams coaching positions. Those interested in applying can do so by E-mailing secretary@klusc.org.au

As nice a guy that Geoff is, I think the Lions have made a mistake. This season coming should have seen the introduction of a new coach (even if it meant sending scouts to the mainland). The Lions have a good nucleus of talented young people, but they need to attract some leaders. Unfortunately the movement of good players in Hobart seem to leave Kingborough off the list of options to go to.

I believe that the last leader- type player Kingborough had, had trouble staying on the park for more than 1 week at the time, some disciplinary problems. He seems to have found his home at Souths.

For the sake of the competition, I hope that I am wrong, and everything finally clicks for Geoff and Tim.

The only things unattractive about Kingbourough is the distance away from central Hobart (I know it's not that far but Hobartians complain if it's any more than a 5 min drive) and the ground they play on.

I could be mistaken by everytime i've played there it's been a terrible surface.

Also Kingbourough are a bit like Richmond Tigers, sorta the everyone kind of likes them team but don't fear them. Look at:

Knights - Dirty
South - Arrogant and annoying cause the parents clap everyone a pass is completed.
Clarence - bogan supporters
Zebras - whingey
Olympic - cause they're olympic

I can't think of one thing that I fear or hate about Kingbourough and thatsssss terrible.

I dont think anyone can question chel's leadership qualities.. its more the support he gets from the rest of the team

Last Year Lightwood park would have been close to the best playing surface in southern tas

that bloke with the weird hair(dont know his name) would be the one thing i hate about them.. he is far to worried about it getting messed up and is probably the worst divers in tasmania..

surfaces better than lightwood last year:

KGV - by a mile
South - by a mile
Olinda Grove
Wentworth Park - horrible size but better surface
Taroona
The only ground i can think of that was worse than lightwood was Clare St. Iplayed on all these grounds.

clearly u have no idea... lightwood was in great condition last year... KGV has a good surface for the majority of the ground but the goal mouths are sand pits no gk wants to play in the sand, south hobart got chopped up and on the far side is always muddy as the wateer runs to that side and wentworth at the far end the goal mouth was putrid with lots of this dead grass sat on top off dirt

Anon 8.31 you must be an Eagles suppoter. They are the only club you havent had a crack at.
Then again you cant say too much about them can you ?

Your list of ground surfaces better than Light Wood suggest you are inhaling more grass than playing on it!!

Watch out for the Lions this year. No one excepts them to do anything but get finish in the bottom two. They have a few quality young leaders at the club and just expect them to keep growing as a team. Freeman has put the hard work in and this year the results will start paying off.

haha if you went anywhere near lightwood park last season you would that it is the best surface in the league. i see kingborough improving next season, young team though that needs to support chel marchioli who is a fantastic leader of the club

I am disgusted to be accused of such a putrid act...

No I just completely forgot about them.

Okay white eagles: Big and Fat, there.

They used to have some large units.

Here's a question who are the most solid players you've have played against in Tas

I'll go with Shep, Julian Proud, Charlie White (although he's too nice & Mckenna from Devonport who grunted when he chasing you, I felt like a bull rider being chased out of the ring.

I ran into Julian once after after spending a year at the gym, i bounced off him like tennis ball and spend the rest of the game trying to breathe.

I can't think of the big eagles boys but there's a few.

No chance, Beachside has the best surface at Sandown. A flat pitch Walter, there's a concept!

Its funny that people admit that they run scared from the Eagles boys. Going to get alot worse in 2011 year of the Eagles

Benny whitehall the most under-rated player in the state. Will rip it up this season. Michael Anderson another fantastic late developer.

Whitehall underrated? He was a striker for years that never scored goals. Had a decent year this year, but please.

who is michael anderson? eagles will get relegated surely?

Yes moments after I posted I thought of him. Tree truckens legs. Good player.

Where do you get your confidence from? As in what about the Eagles team will be better than South Hobart, Knights and Zebras? Tactically where will you break those teams down and who in the Eagles can do that apart from the scottish boy.

Furthermore I would encourage all teams to run scared of Eagles if it meant beating them and ensuring they finish in the bottom half of the ladder as they did last year.

Ah the eagles.

Got to give them some credit. They try hard

Anon 1.59. Ah yes. They try. Have been trying for too long now.
