Melbourne Heart 1-2 Brisbane Roar: Roar win despite missed penalty

Melbourne Heart 1-2 Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar are 4 points clear of second-placed Adelaide United at the top of the A-League ladder after beating Melbourne Heart 2-1 away in an exciting match at AAMI Park this afternoon.

Gerald Sibon put the Heart ahead in the 11th minute after a cut-back from the byline on the right by Michael Maronne, who had been put clear by Adrian Zahra.

Kosta Barbarouses had missed a good chance for Brisbane just before the goal, and he missed another just after it.

The Heart were well worth their lead and almost increased it in the 17th minute when Rutger Worm headed against the base of the left-hand post and the ball rebounded into the grateful arms of Brisbane keeper Michael Theoklitos.

Brisbane were very dangerous on the counter attack and in the 63rd minute Barbarouses hit the outside of the right-hand post following a clever pass by Thomas Broich.

A minute later, Barbarouses had better luck and scored the equaliser from substitute Mitch Nichols’s perfect pass.

The Heart still had plenty to offer and substitute Alex Terra went close to restoring their lead in the 69th minute but fired just wide of the far left-hand post.

Two minutes later, Brisbane were awarded a penalty when Marrone fouled Jean Carlos Solorzano, but Clint Bolton saved Ivan Franjic’s spot-kick.

Solorzano almost scored for the visitors in the 82nd minute but was thwarted by a timely tackle from Michael Beauchamp.

Solorzano was not to be denied, however, and he hit the winner 2 minutes from the end. Broich found Nichols with a pass and the latter released Franjic on the right and when his fierce shot hit the near upright and rebounded across the face of goal, Solorzano was unmarked and smashed the ball into the net to make it 2-1 for the visitors.

Brisbane might have had a third in stoppage time, but Bolton produced a marvellous save in a one-on-one with substitute Rocco Visconte.

Melbourne Heart are in 5th place, 3 points ahead of city rivals Melbourne Victory.

What an amazing game, one of the best HAL games I have seen. It's easy to review the sides as it was a talenof two halves,

We were superb in the first half, we really took it up to the Roar, and on top of that we stopped them from playing their passing game, I think they were a bit shellshocked. We deserved the goal, good one to.
I think we sat back in the second half, we allowed the Roar to play their passing game, and when they get into the rhythm, it's almost impossible to get them out of it. A couple of close goals, but they got what they deserved, a well worked goal.
In the end we were unlucky to lose, both teams deserved a share of the points, but good effort Heart!

Barbarouses tried his heart out, was impressed by him
Sibon and Worm were awesome in the first half
Franjic came on and produced more then Steffanutto, but poor penalty, and why did he take it?

Also, the Kiwi commentator is the new 'Captain Obvious', he has a knack to tell us the most obvious things
