Gold Coast United 1-2 North Queensland Fury

North Queensland Fury failed to get off the foot of the A-League ladder despite beating third-placed Gold Coast United 2-1 away at Skilled Park last night before a poor crowd of 1,714.
Fury are a point behind second-last Perth Glory and third-last Newcastle Jets, while Gold Coast are a point ahead of fourth-ranked Central Coast Mariners and 7 points adrift of second-placed Adelaide United.
Gold Coast were without 8 regular first-team players, including captain Jason Culina, because of injuries and suspensions.
Robson put Gold Coast ahead in the 10th minute with a deflected free-kick, the ball hitting Simon Storey’s heel and completely deceiving goalkeeper Justin Pasfield.
In the 28th minute, Gold Coast keeper Jerrad Tyson produced a wonderful save from Gareth Edds.
Seconds later, he was less fortunate as David Williams equalised with a long-range shot that flew in off the underside of the crossbar.
Ufuk Talay hit the winner with a marvellous free-kick in the 68th minute, awarded after a foul by Kristian Rees.

Tasmania certainly couldn't draw such a crowd Walter, at least not consistently. (eyes roll)
A-League needs to cut losses and get a team down here quick smart.
Good to see Fury win. Fury's Daal scored a goal which was incorrectly ruled offside.

1700 is atrocious for an area which has 8 000 registered players. Lucky for Gold Coast they are backed by Palmer.
We used to have 14 000 registered players in Tasmania. I've been told it has decreased in the last few years.
If we had an A League team in Tassie, we would need a rich benefactor.
Jade North is playing as a centre back in Wellington Phoenix, a mediocre A League team. Sasa Ognenovski is playing in the champion team of Asia and won the Asian player of the year award.
Yet North looks more composed as a centre back for the Socceroos. Funny game, football.

Must say I can't agree with this blog for the most part, it seems a lot of people are very parochial when it comes to lack of goals, but i have seen a lot of deserved draws this year and applauded performances that have gone against us. As a Gold Coast member, I will say that negative football is not something i want to see week in and week out, but for me this year, I've seen more of a hard working team, that has not managed to put its best team out for most of this season go on an amazing run for the better part of this season so far. I hope this team picks up from where it came apart by an impressive Adelaide side. For the top 4 teams in the league, premiership and championship will be a very tight contest if these performances keep stacking up for them. Be proud of the team, and if you do see negative tactics, hassle them, but enjoy the ride, because they have done a magnificent job to date.

Don't get me wrong, I've never been ashamed of Gold Coast, and I never will. I just don't like the way we are playing at the minute. As I've said, injuries have played a major factor in this and like I said, hopefully with a full squad we can start playing some more attractive football.
